I am adding a web page from a browser to the home screen on a samsung galaxy S23. i go to the website in a browser then click on add to home screen then select the screen I want it on and add it. It shows up on the page the it vanishes.

How do I keep it from vanishing from the screen?

Welcome to Android Central forums. Just a couple of questions first.

When you say it shows up and then vanishes, do you mean while you're looking at it, after a day, when you close and reopen the phone, how long does it take until you notice it's missing?

How long have you had the S23? Has this been an issue from the beginning or is this more recent?

My first thought was a locked layout, where you intentionally lock the home screen layout to prevent icons and widgets from being moved or deleted. I'm not certain if this would also prevent items from being added or prevent items added from sticking around. Here are the instructions for how to check your devices home screen status. If the layout is locked try unlocking it and adding your widget.

To lock the home screen layout on a Samsung Galaxy device, navigate to Settings > Home screen > Lock home screen layout and toggle it on. This prevents accidental rearrangement or removal of icons and widgets. [1, 2, 3]
Here's a more detailed breakdown: [1, 2]

  • Access Settings: Open the Settings app on your Samsung Galaxy device.
  • Navigate to Home Screen: Scroll down and tap on "Home screen".
  • Find Lock Home Screen Layout: Find the option labeled "Lock home screen layout".
  • Toggle On: Tap the toggle switch to enable the feature.
  • Prevent Accidental Changes: Once enabled, you won't be able to move or remove icons or widgets on your home screen without first disabling the lock.
  • To Disable: Follow the same steps to disable the feature, toggling the switch off.

A quick search came up with there being a bug in your browser app and suggesting that you clear the cache on that app and trying to add a shortcut. These are the directions for that along with other advice.

If your web links added to your Android home screen have disappeared, try restarting your phone or clearing the cache and data for the browser you used to add them (like Chrome). [1, 2, 3]
Here's a more detailed breakdown of troubleshooting steps:
1. Restart Your Phone: [4, 5]

  • A simple restart can often resolve temporary glitches that cause shortcuts to disappear. [4, 5]
2. Clear Browser Cache and Data: [1]
  • Go to your phone's Settings > Apps & notifications > See all apps > [Your Browser] (e.g., Chrome).
  • Tap on Storage & cache, then Clear cache and Clear data.
  • After clearing the cache and data, try adding the shortcuts again. [1]
3. Check for Browser Updates: [5]
  • Make sure your browser is up to date. Outdated browsers can sometimes have issues with shortcuts.
  • Go to the Google Play Store and check for updates for your browser. [5]
4. Reinstall the Browser: [3]
  • If the above steps don't work, try uninstalling and reinstalling your browser. [3]
5. Consider Using Bookmarks as a Workaround: [2]
  • Some users have reported that shortcuts disappearing is a known issue with no permanent fix in sight. [2]
  • In the meantime, you can save links as bookmarks instead of adding them to the home screen. [4]
6. Check for Launcher Issues: [1, 3]
  • If you're using a custom launcher, make sure it's compatible with adding website shortcuts.
  • Try switching to the default launcher to see if the issue persists. [1, 3]
7. Check for Dark Mode Issues: [4, 6]
  • Some users have reported that website shortcuts can disappear or become shaded out when dark mode is enabled.
  • Try turning off dark mode to see if that resolves the issue. [4, 6]
Let us know if either of these help you out. If not we can offer other advice.
