I wanted to try it and I have to say I am vey well surprised with it.

DEX desktop opens in a few seconds once docked and you just have all your phone data there.

It really works like a desktop and is supper smooth.

While you cannot replace a PC with it due to what app runs it is having a Chromebook.

Most important apps run a DEX version, being full screen, and then you have the others running like you see them on the phone.

Yeah the Dex station is pretty cool.

It is pretty nice, isn't it.

I paired mine to a compact bluetooth keyboard with a built-in track-pad, from Logitech. Works well in combination.

I'd be curious to know if anyone has run a DeX Pad vs DeX Station to confirm that the alleged higher resolutions on a compatible TV screen are available with the new 2018 DeX Pad.

I plan to upgrade to the DeX pad because they will also add, if they haven't already, an in screen keyboard along with the touch pad capabilities to give it more portability options.

Too bad they don't make dex adapters for the Tab S3, or at least give it a dex-style UI if you plug a mouse in...

I have a Dex pad and tried it on my 60inch TV and looks great!

I received a free Dex Oad with my S9+ and I finally got a chance to try it out. it's a cool gadget (I love my gadgets) but I can't see a real practical use for it that I couldn't accomplish with Screen Mirroring. Can someone give me some ideas on productive uses for this thing?

Depends on what you use it for. Yeah If you use screen mirroring a lot then not much different. The DeX gives you all the ports and the interface that can come in handy for mulitple Windows open vs mirroring. For me it comes in handy for work to launch a Citrix Windows 10 VDI and interact with my phone all at the same time. It's just an overall better productivity experience vs mirroring.

Can you expound on that?. Sounds interesting but don't know "Citrix" or "VDI". The Dex Pad would be useful if it popped up in my Windows 10 PC somehow.

For work we use Citrix to host multiple Virtual Windows 10 machines. So when I'm home I can just pop my S9+ into the DeX station and do work on a Windows 10 virtual machine and access my phone at the same time. No need to carry a laptop back and forth anymore. You could remote into your windows 10 pc using a remote app but I'm not sure which app works best, especially with DeX.

My work uses citrix too but I'm curious, Does this have to be soemthing our company opts into? Like admins have to enable on their side?

Yeah the experience will vary depending on how your company uses citrix. Some companies can just host apps in a web portal, host virtual machines or both. Either way you should be able to utilize the Citrix Receiver app on your device and with DeX.

This is the latest version that was released this year. Compared to last version it converts your device to a touch pad mouse and also gives you the option to open an on screen keyboard. Not sure if the latter is available yet. One thing you do loose is the Ethernet port. So if you want to connect physically to a network then you'll need to use a USB ethernet dongle.

I have to be honest: I bought this with $99 to blow. I am amazed at what this DexPad does. My Note 8 is just so so as a trackpad, so I use a wireless mouse. I have a wired keyboard to a monitor. Many apps are not polished to work with Dex, but the main one's like Office 365 products work great.
One problem is that when varifying passwords with my LastPass, I can't use the fingerprint reader, so I have to resort to using PIN number. Not a big deal, but a front fingerprint reader on the Note 8 would make it sweet.
I'm looking forward to more programs optimized for Dex.

I actually found it extremely useful in the following scenario: I work for a bank where all social media, free email and streaming media websites are blocked, so I rely on my cell phone to communicate with the outside world. However, having to tap everything on my S9 screen was a pain in the ***. So, I got the Dex and also an UGreen USB switch, so now I can type away from my desktop keyboard and use the mouse on my cell phone as if it was another screen of my PC. I love it
