Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 Battery Notification No Longer Updating

This is a bit of a long story, but the bottom line is that the battery percentage notification on my tablet is no longer working, so I can't tell how much power I have left on the tablet. The battery is charging, but the notification is always showing 100%.

It started when I installed a battery saving app, GreenPower Premium Battery Saver, which I download because it was suggested by Samsung because they were giving a free download. After I installed it, I was using the tablet unplugged for a while, and the percentage went as low as 63%, but then didn't go any further. When I saw that it was still at 63% while it was unplugged, I just figured it was the app doing a great job.

Later in the day, the tablet suddenly dropped to 3% without warning. When I plugged it in to charge it back up, it showed that it was charging, but the percentage never changed from 3%. I couldn't use the tablet unplugged because I would keep getting the message saying I needed to plug in the tablet. It stayed that way for about two weeks, and didn't change until when I took the tablet into work and plugged it into a different jack. When I turned it on, it showed 100%. Don't know why that made a difference, but it did. It was unplugged for about two hours before I plugged it into the other jack.

It stayed at 100% for several weeks, never changing, but still charging. One night, I didn't charge the tablet, and was using it unplugged for about 30 minutes in the morning. I restarted the tablet because something seemed strange with a video I was playing, and when it restarted, the percentage was 0%! I plugged it in to charge it, but the percentage never changed from 0%. I then contacted Samsung support and did all of the things they suggested: soft reset; running in safe mode; and finally, factory reset. After doing all of these things, the percentage stayed at 0%.

Samsung suggested that I take it to Sprint for repair, which I had planned to do. By accident, I dropped the tablet on the living room carpet, and when I turned it back on, the percentage went back up to 100%! It is now at 100%, but it never changes. I even took it to Sprint, but was told they don't repair tablets.

I don't know what else to do. Has anyone else had this issue? I can charge the battery, and I periodically use it unplugged, but I have to plug it back in after a short time to make sure I don't have an issue with the indicator suddenly dropping on me. Is this a software issue caused by that battery saver app? Is this a hardware issue? Do I need a new battery? Any help or guidance is appreciated. I just need to know what to do before I send it in for repair or replacement.

Thanks!!

Thanks for the reply, Beut. To change the battery, do I need one of those special toolkits so I can gain access to the battery? I've watched a few videos that show how to remove the battery, but it looks like you can't do it without this kit.

Thanks.

Watch this video will give you an idea how to change it. Basically it's very easy to open, any plastic prying tool will work. Be careful with the battery connector, remove the tape first and pry evenly to disconnect the battery connector, this one is very fragile and easily to break.

Make sure your firmware is current, newest build should be OB1 which fix charging issue.
