Have been playing with the new S7+ for a few days now and just noticed Gmail has an old plain icon, and the app ver. is old, back from May of this year.
Same for Drive (not as old but still). Also Assistant app (which is not pre-installed, like the rest).

Even the Play Store app itself is old, but after deleting cache and forcing update by pressing on the version in the settings, it did update to the latest version somehow. But I just can't make the gmail and others to update. The strange thing is the icon is new on the list of recent updates in the Play Store, but the app stays old on the tab itself. Tried clearing cache, tried resetting and starting fresh - same thing.

WTH is going on with this tablet?! My 200 bucks moto doesn't have issues like this

I just got mine yesterday. I have the new Gmail icon. Silly question. Have you applied all the system updates for the tab?

Yes I did, first thing, updated everything then full system rest as I always do. I tried it twice.

    Hi,
I don't think it's that easy, tbh... There is some kind of a nasty glitch, that is not normal.
As I was able to force-update the Google Play app to the latest version by clearing the cache and pressing the app version in the settings. Also, Maps, YouTube etc, all are updated to the latest version without issues, BUT some per-installed apps are just stuck, like Gmail, or Drive (or play store). Similarly, a perfect example of an app that is NOT per-installed - Assistant - also stuck on some version from August when I install it myself from the Play store. I've never experienced anything like that on any of my android devices, even the cheap Motorola phones with whole lot of per-installed Google apps. All update right away

Yeah strange, have you tried Uninstall those apps then updating them in play store again?

Yes I did all kinds of manipulations, uninstalling (basically it never does fully uninstall Gmail because it's per-installed, like other google apps), tried clearing data + cache, then uninstalling again, then rebooting. I tried full factory reset and all kinds of things.
The funny thing, in the Play Store's list of recently updated apps Gmail has the new color icon, but the app itself is old when I open it. It seems like some kind of permissions glitch that prevents it from being updated. Same for Drive and Assistant (and initially Play Store - tried clearing its cache too, and fully uninstalling - doesn't help other apps, but as I mentioned, I was able to force update the Store itself that way). Maybe there are other apps or services that I'm not aware of that are also stuck...
Moreover, looks like I'm not alone with Gmail on this https://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...ml#post6891111

You can go settings >apps >3 dots upper right corner tap> system apps and clear data and force stop , force stop.step is very important not to skip Google play services and play store

Have tried that, but alas. Now the interesting thing, both the Google Play services /Play store are latest versions (after my force updating). So I cleared cache, forced stopped, uninstalled and then disabled the Gmail app. Then I open up play store, enable Gmail, then updated it --- BUT it always offers me to update to the June 17th, 2020.05.31.316831277.release version. So the google store thinks this is the latest version for some reason. Also just as a aside note, I watched some s7+ reviews on youtube, this one here it's dated a months ago, and it still had the old gmail icon. I think she is also in Canada, so could it be something to do with a glitch in the regional firmware?

It's possible, you want wait until next software update see what happens?

Just did a fresh reset, same thing... I'm really disappointed now. I got the tab from costco so I have 3 months to decide if I wanna keep it. If samsung don't fix it in the meantime, I guess it will go back for sure.

Honestly - not getting the icon updates isn't reason enough for me to return the device. I don't have the new icons either.

It's not just icon updates; the apps don't update either.

Interesting - I just uninstalled updates and re-updated it and it's still showing the last update for GMail was in June.
