Need help on upgrading my android

Hello ppl,
i have a mobile manufactured by a local mobile company.It currently runs android 4.2 and hasnt recieved any update nor will recieve in future. I wish to update it to android 5.0,but since im a newbie i need some advice i need some advice on how to upgrade.
I went through online tutorials where they ask create a custom rom,but im getting confused after going through many tutorials,so please if any can post lnks of tutorials in a correct manner on how to proceed would be of great help to me.
I want to upgrade to lollipop,so please guide me on how to proceed on my own i.e creating my own custom rom

I know CyanogenMod has some guides on how to create ROMs. As far as I know, they still use specific devices as a starting point. I tried building a ROM myself, and it is no small task. Since your device is in the minority, you might have a hard time designing your own custom ROM.
