What uses less battery: connected to 3g or 4g?

So I know that being connected to wi-fi is probably the most battery efficient. But how about between 4g and 3g, which uses the battery less?

2g uses less than 3g which usesless than 4g.

But if you are downloading a large file, 4g will probably use less, although I'm not sure.
