Audible Notifications

I haven't seen a thread for the Sprint Epic 4G Touch audible notifications (I believe my issue is with this). It seems to only be happening with my text message. I am using Handcent SMS in lieu of the stock messaging application. I had Handcent on my Sprint Hero that I just switched over from yesterday. I checked all of the settings on my phone and applications to disable this feature but I still do not know why the audible notifications are occuring, I have my phone on silent. When I receive a new text message a voice tells me that I have a new message from xxx. Is there a way to completely disable this feature?
