i use GO SMS for this feature where a box pops up with any new sms/mms i get. my mom in law just got a tmobile htc sensation 4G and noticed her stock messaging app allows for this option.

does the GS2 stock messaging app do this? is it a gingerbread thing or an HTC Sense option she has???

Nope, you only get notifications in the pull-down notification window; there is no pop-up option on the GS2, at least no stock option w/o third party apps.

GoSMS is a crap program. Handcent is so much better.

The big issue I have with GoSMS besides the fact that it is overly bloated, is that the popups don't popup over the lock screen. It will only light up the screen and you have to unlock the screen to see the popup.

When I get a text with Handcent, the lock screen lights up with the message and quick reply box. That way I can read and reply to a text without even unlocking the phone.

Handcent is the better choice.

Hmmm, not my experience at all. I have an OG EVO and use WidgetLocker and it pops up over the lockscreen and lets you type a response.

I've not used GoSMS with the original lockscreen, but honestly I love GoSMS!!

I had handcent before go sms and liked the format better. Plus I can move go to sd card so it takes less space in my crappy aria. I like the fact you need to input the lock code to access the pop up, I don't want just anyone picking up my phone and being able to read and reply to a text.

Thanks for the input all

Hello everybody!

You can also try Popup Notifications, which is a simple pop-up application and has great integration with the stock and third-party sms apps! I also supports a wide range of themes, which you can use per contact!
