How to disable AT&T check while starting FoxFi WiFi

Hi, I was using FoxFi for tethering with my Galaxy S3 till AT&T pushed out the 4.3 update. Since then, every time I start the WiFi mode in FoxFi, AT&T checks whether I have purchased a data plan and then shuts down the WiFi mode. Is there any way to disable that check? If I root my phone, will that help?
