phone is HOT and battery is junk

My battery goes from 100% to dead in less than 3 hours! I've made sure to turn brightness down, close apps, turn off WiFi when not using, etc etc. Even bought a replacement battery and no improvement. Also my phone is always constantly hot! When its not charging the top half is burning hot and when the phone is on the (Samsung) charger (it came with) the whole back of the phone is hot. This is my 3rd replacement phone due to various issues. Is this in result of most recent update? I've had this particular phone for a few months now and was fine. But the last few weeks its just junk.

How old is the battery?

The original is July 2013 (every replacement phone came without a new battery) the replacement battery I bought is 2 weeks old

Try rooting and undervolting it
