10 Reasons GS6 Is Better Than the G4

Bolded part: Not true, in my opinion. I'd guess that within two years, phone cameras (on high end, flag ship models) will be indistinguishable from DSLRs when it comes to the finished, pre-post-work photos. However, SLRs will still have better quality due to their lenses, which is an areas with which phones will never be able to compete.

Point and shoot cameras are pretty much dead. I don't know why anyone would have one unless they simply cannot afford a modern smartphone. DSLRs are going to be niche markets for professional, prosumers, and soccer mom's that don't know they can get 94% of what they need from their iPhone 8S (because in my biased opinions, soccer moms buy iPhones and Nikons).

Side note: If the G4 had a fingerprint scanner, it would have been my choice.

I think it may be true that in a few years smart phone cameras may be as good as DSLRs in certain situations. I think eventually, DLSR cameras/mirrorless cameras as we know them may go the way of film cameras as phone manufacturers have a signficant incentive to improve their cameras and fit them into the space available. This may mean that they end up with arrays of small lenses and sensors that allow for software to create images in entirely different ways than traditional single sensor/single lens cameras. I don't think that is happening in 2 years but maybe 10 or so.

Eventually, the big camera companies (Canon/Nikon and others) are going to have adopt much of he same technology to survive. There will always, imo be room for dedicated professional level cameras (in some form) becuase professionals don't need to pull their camera out of their pockets to take pictures at weddings and sporting events, etc. They do need the cameras to be ergonomic and able to work with off camera lighting etc.

Point and shoot cameras still have a place at this point due to comparatively massive zoom capabilities and adjustable f stops compared to phones fixed f stop, fixed focal lengths. If you think your phone camera can do these things as well as good point and shoot cameras you just haven't used a good "point and shoot" camera recently.

It's interesting how different some of these battery reports are. It's important to note that the US model actually took a step back in battery size to 2900 mah and isn't being tested by these reviewers as it pertains to the G4. Although 100 mah isn't a huge difference, it will affect the total life you get out of the G4.

In my opinion, with both phones running 5.1 or 5.1.1, the S6/Edge will probably be pretty close to the G4 in battery life, either better or worse in some scenarios. With the G4, you get a removable battery and no quick charging. With the S6, you get adaptive fast charging and no removable battery. For me? Give me the S6 over the G4 in this category. I can charge my phone for 20 minutes a day if I'm running low and not have to worry about it. I can also charge wirelessly out of the box. I don't feel I should have to spend $30-50 for a spare battery/spare battery charger and the same for a wireless charging back to compensate.

How could they omit built-in wirless charging? They could have at least included the accessory instead of making their owners buy them. Wonder if the accessory will include both wireless charging standard.

I am guessing that it was to save costs and allow them to spend money on other things while still hitting a price point/margin requirement. I would have loved to see built in wireless but I don't think it is a big deal that it isn't there given the other features the phone does have.

True. But wirless charging isn't the only feature omitted.

I'm not that concerned with the wireless charging omission. What's more egregious to me is the lack of quick charging. That was beyond dumb.

Just read the AC review, and it's the first one to describe how the HDR mode works on the G4 (multiple shots processed by software). I'm still baffled that people gloss over the real time HDR on the S6 like it's no big deal -- it's a HUGE deal, and even if the G4 consistently captured better pictures (which it doesn't), I'd pick the S6 for real-time HDR. Being able to use HDR on moving objects is a gigantic difference between the cameras.

The S6 is also more consistent in it's use of HDR on auto mode than the G4. You can't fully trust the G4's auto mode like you can the S6.

Yeah, the HDR mode is one strength of the s6. Unfortunately though, Samsung kind of shot themselves in the foot by not having an SD card. The RAW capture of the g4 is a huge deal and it also creates huge files. Even if Samsung fights back by implementing a RAW mode, you are going to be pinched by the lack of storage for the files.

That's a pretty attractive feature, so it's pretty annoying HTC do the same thing with the M9 and expect you to forkout for a quick charger. Samsung did good to include it in the box - you have everything from the get go to get started. Quick charge is more important than wireless charging so I don't think many would be too disgruntled to not have a charging pad included.

Exactly. Also add on 4k video recording. That eats up space really quickly. A 64gb model iPhone 6 makes sense - that's quite a lot of storage for most people; it does not do RAW images, no 4k. On the S6 64gb, the value is much more diminished.

Has the G4 camera been upgraded a lot since the G3? Wasn't impressed with the G3's camera vs. GS6.
They added three axis OIS and a larger aperture. Maybe it's just an early firmware version but GS6 pictures look better. There is also RAW output support which is coming with 5.1.1.

Wonder why it wasn't available with the initial test units?

Pre production units. I think they changed their mind upon feedback but surely the phone is well into production if it's getting a June release? Who knows. It's confusing. All those press reviews and youtube reviews now contain misinformation which LG can't amend. Bad PR. On the other hand only us geeks would take notice of Quick Charge.

"it will affect the total life you get out of the G4"

that's a bit misleading (not that u meant it to be). it will affect the total life you get out of the battery, not the G4. replaceable battery is a big deal as most consumers won't know they can replace their battery via Samsung for $45, they just get a new phone, possibly not even knowing it's just a battery issue ... the sales rep sure as hell isn't gonna tell the truth.

$15 and 30 seconds, G4 is as good as new

but your OK with either having to spend $45 for a replacement or buy a new phone in 12 months cause your battery is dead?

Where did you hear $45 to replace S6 battery?

Wasn't that the entire list? Oh, wireless charging. Some people might not want a case, so wireless charging is still an issue. Are there more issues?

now it'll be that it's not included. what's hysterical is in 12 months, all the S6 owners are gonna pay $45 for a replacement battery, or just get a new phone. meanwhile G4 owners will simply throw in a $15 fresh battery, and in 30 seconds, good as new.

I'm not falling for the "energy efficient" marketing strategy. then again, I plan on getting 3 years out of my next device. if my phones only last 6-12 months, is consider the S6, but 2+ years, not a chance.
