11/21/2011: VZW Nexus (Unconfirmed)

This actually seems like the most credible and logical reason why they would not release this phone until December. Releasing it any sooner would definitely kill sales of the Razr and Rezound. You gotta space out releases for this reason.

Well verizon said they are going to release like a new phone every week for the rest of the year, so that would debunk that about wanting to space releases out.

They make money off of plans and do not care what phone you have as long as it is with them. I don't understand why this is so hard for people to understand. A smart phone is a smart phone to them and they are making an extra $30+ just off data plans per month. But verizon would never release a phone so close to another. I mean they didn't release the rezound 3 days after the razr or anything. :-X

However, Verizon DOES favor the Rezound and Razr because they contain bloatware that Verizon can potentially make further money off of.

I can absolutely see VZW doing a stealth release of the GNex next week. It has a built-in market (us), freeing Verizon to push the phones that will make more profit from add-ons. But getting it out early next week means that stock will be in most stores by Black Friday. Preorders are fine, but a lot of gift buyers are going to want to leave the VZW store with product in hand, since they're not the end customer.

Will it get some promo this holiday season? Sure, but Verizon doesn't have to push it hard right out of the gate. The real issue for them will come a few weeks later, when everyone currently awaiting the GNex already has one. Then, Verizon has to start finding a market for all those remaining GNex boxes sitting in their stores.

BTW, I wouldn't necessarily discount the "phone geek" market the way I see some people here do. According to the home page, Android Central has over 500,000 members. Obviously, not all of those are people in the USA looking to buy a GNex this holiday season. But it's also not just a fringe group of a few thousand people. The market for the top-end smartphones is naturally going to be more informed about these things. The casual buyer is more likely to gravitate towards the cheapies.

I agree with you. I think the first week or two will be very little push and advertising and then later on verizon will do some advertising for it. Stealth launch would be something verizon would do and just one day show up on their site.

I can see them issuing a press release the morning of launch day. That way, all of the tech sites trumpet the news, we get 50,000 new threads in this forum and blow up the server, and hordes of Android enthusiasts instantly descend on VZW stores like an invading army waving their wallets. The next day at the VZW store, though, it will be like nothing ever happened. :)

That is what they did with the droid 3, it just showed up on their site for preorder and then the next day issues a press release. I mean verizon already announced the nexus just did not give a date. Come on verizon give us a date!!!

On the issue of advertising, is there any chance that Google handles the primary marketing, much the way Apple does for the iPhone? For all we know, Google and/or Samsung have TV ads just waiting for VZW's launch date.

Another factor favoring a launch next week: the sudden appearance of hands-on reviews on several tech sites. It makes no sense to start handing out a bunch of review phones if the launch is still several weeks away. None of these companies (even Verizon) are complete idiots when it comes to marketing. It seems like a strategy of some sort is in place.

I don't know anyone with a smartphone that uses vz navigator. I saw people with feature phones using it but most with a smart phone use google maps since it works better. Not to mention they could still install it through the market if they wanted to use vzw navigator. Not to mention both the razr and rezound come with google maps preloaded anyway.

You probably don't buy tampons either, but that doesn't mean there aren't a lot sold every day. There is probably no one in this forum that uses VZNavigator (or most of the other VZW bloat), but to assume that there aren't a bunch of less informed that don't is a mistake. Think of all the grandmas and grandpas out there (no offense intended, as many are as tech savy as anyone else) that buy these phones with no clue what they can do. They just click and use stuff with little knowledge of what better alternatives exist. Thinking bloat doesn't mean money to Verizon is a mistake. And although I don't use any of it, I'm glad it exist. The more money Verizon makes, the better services we'll see in the future. I'm sure 5G service (or whatever they call the next generation of data transmission) will cost boatloads to develop.

Google has stated that the device will be available on Verizon in November (Matias Duarte said this in an interview on "On the Verge"). December is less than two weeks away. We will see our phone soon. And just in case anyone missed it: The Panda says relax.

As with all things in life, prepare for the worst and hope for the best. I've been preparing for a December release all along so this waiting doesn't bother me. But if we get into January I'll start to get annoyed.

if it comes out within my 30 days, ill consider it. If not, oh well. I enjoy my Droid razr :)

(I thought I was in the razr section ooops)

LTE Advanced and WiMAX 2 are 4G. No one is talking about 5G because "true" 4G isn't even here. The organization that created the 4G standard conceded due to popular demand that the higher speed tech that we are using can be called 4G because it is faster than 3G was. Everything that we call 4G today is actually 3.5G. Even Verizon's and AT&T's LTE network isn't near as fast as true 4G. True 4G standards state that we will have 1Gbps speeds while stationary and 100Mbps while mobile.

Who's panda? Some kid in his mom's basement. I want my sourcing from someone named Dragon or Trex.

Panda just said they are trying to release it before December 1st but these are subject to change
