12GB of 16GB taken by system, why?

Hello, I have the 16GB Honor 8 Lite, and am having low space without having much data, I found that around 7GB is taken by firmware by default, but the 9GB that's left, 5GB is occupied as system data too, leaving me with 4GB free space by default, Can anybody please tell me a way I can free additional space?

16GB is very small, these days. The only way to free up space is to remove data/apps.

Keep pictures in the cloud , dont keep a lot of apps .
