Three thoughts:
1. I listen to music in places where there is no reception -- 3G or wifi.
2. I have a lot of photos and videos.
3. I use my phone as a dropbox dump.
16 GB is not that much.
Plus, you assume that Sprint will never have tiered data systems. That's going to end; I guarantee you. If you listen to a couple hours of music per day (streaming) or watch some Netflix every now and again, you're over your 4GB monthly (Verizon) limit. It doesn't sound like you will overuse, but you will.
Internet outages + tiered data plans = gimme the RAM.
