You can always get a micro sd card if you need additional memory. But right now the tablet is sold out every where, so it's more about which is available for some people lol

All depends on what you are going to use it for. If you will not necessarily be connected all the time where you can store music/movies on cloud services... then yes it is necessary. I personally went with a 16gb and a 32gb micro SD because I transfer from device to device frequently.

You can also get a class 4 32gb micro sd now for about $50. If you really shop around. Then you'll have 48 gb for $50 less than the 32 gb tab price. And if you get the dock you can use an ext. Hard drive- limitless.
