Ok so I just rooted my Samsung Fascinate and I was thinking about trying a new rom. I want google to be default search engine. Also I want to be able to get to google search by pressing the capacitive search button. Also I want to have no bloatware. Can anyone recommend a rom that does this? I've searched but there were so many choices and I really want to be careful.

Many swear by the Community ROM (also referred to as UKB, or Ultimate KangBang) - and I am definitely of their number! This will definitely satisfy your wish list - check out this thread for version 2.0.

While I'm not sure if it will be useful, you can also check out this thread for instructions on one possible installation route - and if that proves worthless check out the stickied posts in this forum - they are FULL of GREAT info! Enjoy!

Don't let dwitherell undervalue his own guide (2nd link), "One way to "clean install" UKB/ComRom 2.0" that definitely took considerable time to put together. I followed it carefully for a flawless 1st-time install.

If you just got your Fascinate, you are probably looking to get better battery life. I can tell you, the battery life is nothing short of FASCINATING on UKB 2.0 with PBJ -50 (this is what I have, so I cannot speak for the others at this time).

You will also enjoy Google search at the push-of-the-search-button, ability to 'reboot' from power menu, and some other cool features on UKB... thanks to all the efforts of the TSM team!

pay close attention to the guides on ODIN and CWM...those will be your friend.

ODIN is used to push files to your fascinate (NEVER EVER HIT THE PHONE BUTTON)
CWM is a custom recovery also used to get custom ROMS and such on your phone, but without the use of the computer.

dwitherell's link has info on all that, as do the stickies in the forum...

the biggest advice I can give is READ READ READ!!! if you think you have read enough you havent, :-)

and after that...BACKUP BACKUP AND BACKUP YOUR BACKUP!!! :-)

Im not trying to scare you so dont worry, read and backing up are just good practice and can help you if you mess up.

have fun!

btw...choose whatever ROM sounds good to you. we all have different opinions but the newest one is the COMMROM 2.0

+10000000000000000000000000000 always....
No matter how easy flashing becomes for you... you will eventually get a bad download. Creating a backup will save you a lot of time and work.

Yeah, UKB 2.0 is pretty much the Default ROM that we use on this side of the Fascinate Sub-Forum.
It's been the best for me for sure. I know a lot of people have their own preferences, too.
Some like UKB 2.0 more than 1.3, or vice versa. And some people prefer Evil Fascination over UKB. Some are even on Superclean ROMs and prefer those over all of the new ones. Just experiment and you'll find the one you want. That's what I did and I stuck with UKB 2.0. And yes, READ READ READ, and BACK UP. Those will save your life. Lol. Make sure you read the stickies, too. Those are full of valuable information.

But definitely try UKB 2.0. Try all of them. But I can almost guarantee that you'll love UKB 2.0 much more than any of them. AND, since almost everyone has it in here, you will always have quick support for any problems you may encounter with it.

I hope this helps. :)
