Does anyone know if you can still receive data over 1x? Or do you need to have 3g in order to do so?

I am headed up north this weekend with my Inc, and want to be able to browse the internet etc. Just unsure if I will have a good 3g signal, but I know my verizon phones have worked up there in the past so at least thats 1x right? Also I wonder if the data costs over the unlimited plan if you are only on 1x?

No data on 1x, 1X I think you can but will be slow, as far as good 3g signal will depend on where up north you are going

Edit: Of course if you can find Wifi to connect to there is that option for data.

Lol I should have made the clarification on 1x or 1X. I think I will have at least 1X, but who knows how up to date the towers are. Its not that far up north but its about 20 minutes or so from any large city.

Well that close you may get 3g, I can tell you that I was between Atlanta and Onaway and my phone become nothing more than a paperweight. Guessing you won't be that far north. I have been to Harrison with my Blackberry and never had any trouble getting 3g coverage.

Sorry, didnt notice you were from michigan as well. I think the closest city is West Branch, or Rose City. It used to be you had to stand in the middle of the yard and as long as you didn't move, you could make a call. Now you can actually walk around the house with it and its ok.

I think the best option is going to be to just try and pick up a unsecured wifi signal...gotta be at least one person in the sub that has it.

I was recieving maps in navigation etc with 1X. I drove over 4000 miles from Alabama to California and point in between and never had an issue till I got out to Lake Havasu and I didn't have anything!

1X = 2G network, capable of data

3G = figure it out for yourself, genius

1X = dial up

3G = high speed

1x = extended network, i believe...i've seen it on my phone. but ever since i rooted my phone it has this jerk's branding all over all of the usual network notification locations.
