Just lock the dang thing! The guy has a phone he wants to use like a laptop on web sites optimized for a computer and he can't understand that plain and simple fact! Please, help us to not need to see his useless ranting over and over! If the droid 2.2 was really SO problematic then everyone would be complaining about it ... oh, wait, those of us who need to enter data into form fields probably use a laptop or desktop - not a phone!
That's ridiculous. I know the limits of a phone and a laptop or my Ipad. I'm not trying to edit Java programing, HTML, or anything else that should be done on a computer. It's a phone. I use it to go to MAYBE 5-10 sites. I don't think only accessing sites for (in example) XBox forums, IGN, Yahoo mail, Gmail, ESPN, etc. is asking the phone to do too much. ACTUALLY some of those sites have "mobile versions" - it's simply the form field boxes. And I do use my phone to enter text into form field boxes even though I have a laptop and an Ipad; mainly because IT WAS nice to have that option. Now I am using my Ipad more because of what Froyo did to the internet. Why should I have to stop using my phone to make a post on a message board or send an email on a non-mobile site for example just because Froyo came out and made it a headache. Get real. Before Froyo I could go onto nearly any site probably, mobile or not, and easily make a post or send an email without these new form field boxes. There really is almost nothing else I do with this phone other then post to forums or send emails. As far as I know that is what an INTERNET BROWSER is for.
Besides, one of the biggest pluses with 2.1 was that even sites that aren't specifically designed for mobile phones, was that it was still more "user friendly" to access even those sites. Does that mean people should stay away from sites where the site isn't basically "locked" to a specific screen size for a mobile phone? Because I don't think so. I would just like Google to get rid of some GARBAGE form fields that Froyo put on the phone and revert it back to the original dedicated fields. PERIOD! It's 99.9% of the reason I purchased this phone. I have NEVER ONCE said I use this phone for anything other then internet browsing, emails and posting to forums.
The reason I started it on the D1 forum is because people with larger then 3.7 inch screens may not be having the same issue with the subpar garbage tiny text field boxes. Even when I used an Evo and DroidX it still seemed just as bad - but MAYBE it was because I have had my D1 for so long. Who knows, maybe people just buying the 4.3 inch screen Droids don't see it as an issue, I do. (FREAKIN ZOOM OPTION).
ALL of the sites I went to did JUST FINE with the original D1 and 2.1
The rest of Froyo seems fine outside of the fact the single most important feature IMO.
My original intention was to get a solid thread going about if people are displeased with Froyo and for what reasons including the form fields and then submit the link of the thread to Google via email or the board so that Google can get a better idea on how FROYO is effecting the users of THIS particular phone, the D1. Simply because the first Droid seems to be the largest part of the Android market based on the fact it only came out what, less then a year ago? I much rather would have had people say if they think the new form fields SUCK, if they think that, rather then be flamed.
If other people think that something was taken away from their phone then by all means say so if you want. I am simply saying, I didn't get this phone for this garbage internet browser that Froyo has created. I would like the old form field boxes back so the D1 is more user friendly so it makes sense why I even have this phone in the first place. For instance I just went back in to edit this post and can't even get the form field box to fit in the screen again. Now I am scrolling right and left and waiting for the zoom option to disappear again. The other text entry box with 2.1 was simply an "up and down" where it was extremely easy to enter and edit text.
I'm gonna go resume playing Halo.
