Just a couple basic questions-some could probably go in the Hacks subforum, but I didn't feel like making 2 threads.

Right now I am running Fission 2.2.2 so I know I'll be flashing back to stock if I ever want the upgrade or any OTA upgrade in the future.

I never installed the leaked 2.3.320

Can I just use

VRZ_M8810_2.3.15_1FF01.sbf

to flash back to 2.2 stock before I upgrade to 2.3.340 or should I use

VRZ_M8810_1.13.6.2_1FF01.sbf

to flash to stock 2.1 and then OTA to 2.2 and OTA again to 2.3.340

Also, I resisted the temptation to install the leaked 2.3.320 since the gains seemed small and the risks seemed high.

I was advised that 2.3.320 permanently changed the bootloader and made it impossible to ever load VRZ_M8810_2.3.15_1FF01.sbf again.

I was advised that only the VRZ_M8810_2.3.32_1FF01.sbf leaked sbf by TBH could be used to restore.

With that said, I was wondering if it was typical for OTA upgrades to also alter the bootloader so that the stock sbfs

VRZ_M8810_1.13.6.2_1FF01.sbf 2.1 or
VRZ_M8810_2.3.15_1FF01.sbf 2.2 would become unusable.

Hopefully, a new sbf will be released for 2.3.340 OTA version but no-one knows and I would like to know whether my current sbfs will still work.

Lastly, once I upgrade to 2.3.340 OTA is there any good reason to keep the VRZ_M8810_2.3.32_1FF01.sbf leaked sbf by TBH since it would seem completely unnecessary.

i cant answer this, but ill move it the hacks forum, as its probably better answered there

I would use VRZ_M8810_2.3.15_1FF01.sbf and take the OTA for .340. going all the way back to 2.1 wouldn't really be necessary IMO.

OTA updates can and do alter the bootloader.
.320 and .340 both upgraded it to 30.04. BUT some newer phones running .151 did ship with a 30.04 bootloader and other older ones had 30.03 or 30.01.

Right now though there is a solution that is supposed to work to go back to 2.3.151 even if you installed the leak. I'm not trying it though. Not until i see how all of this shakes out.

Here's the post about it Want to roll your .320 DX back to 2.3.151? NOW YOU CAN!

I assume, and that's dangerous, that because the bootloader in .320 is the same as .340 that in a pinch you could use the .320 sbf, then use the above method to get back on stock .151 and then OTA back to .340....maybe...i'm not gonna try that unless it's my last option.

hope that helps.

why do you want to take the OTA?
.340 is out. which is what the OTA is going to be.
is instead of taking 10 steps back to take 1 step forward. just get the .340 SBF and flash (I believe it's going to be released soon)
or flash to .320 and follow the upgrade path to .340

with how the scene is going these days, i don't see the need to ever take another OTA.

yup I agree
TBH is supposed to have a .340 upgrade path in a few hours actually
I believe you have to upgrade to .320 first though.
so in his case, it would be the same steps since he's not leaked.

Fission > 2.2 sbf > OTA
fission > .320 update > .340 update (when it's relased)

another option is, if you saved a nandroid of your phone before you installed fission then you could just restore that, take your OTA and be done.

Thanks for all the info:

At the time I posted the question, the OTA was not available for download, knowing that, I'll probably go that route.

However, I am concerned about one thing: I am currently running Fission 2.2.2and have tried Apex as well. I have no plans to revert back to stock anytime soon with the exception of when I do to install the upgrade to 2.3.340.

Then I'll be heading back to custom roms.

Because no rom has currently been updated yet to take advantage of the 2.3.340 would I be defeating the purpose of going back to stock to get the upgrade now when I plan to go back to a rom that is based on 2.3.15?

If I upgrade to 2.3.340 now and then immediately reload my clockwork backup from when I had Fission 2.2.2 installed, prior to my upgrade to 2.3.340 will it make any difference?

Would I be better to just keep things the way they are until Fission and/or Apex are updated to take advantage of the official non-leaked 2.3.340?

If I upgraded to 2.3.340 regardless of how I do it, will the upgrade stick even after I reload my old clockwork recovery backup I made last night?

And, I did keep a clockwork backup of when my phone was on stock, so I could very easily load that, download and install the upgrade and then reload my clockwork backup of Fission 2.2.2 I made last night, but would it make a difference?
