2 taps and a swipe just to enter my PIN?

I'm just coming from a Note 4 that I loved. Unfortunately Samsung bricked it so I went with trusty Google.

Love the Pixel XL so far, however, it annoys me to have to double tap to awake, swipe up and then enter a 4 digit number. I often have the phone on my desk so I rarely pick it up. The note simply required the pressing of the home button and I could then enter in my PIN. If the fingerprint reader was on the front, I could use that. But as we all know it's on the back.

Does anyone else find this slightly annoying? Am I missing something in settings? I see no reason for them to require to swipe up just to enter a PIN. If it was just the double tap, sure, maybe even a 3rd tap to get it from black & white (not sure what this is called) to the color mode.

Using the power saves the two taps, but another option is to set up smart locations. Wherever you're sitting at your desk, likely you can set it as a safe location and it'll just be unlocked there.

The smart locations is a life saver! Such a great feature of Android that iOS does not have

Oh you mean the feature that allows easy prying in your phone? Yeah, it's great.
I'm glad iOS doesn't have that
Huh? If you set it up properly when your always next to your phone then there is no prying!! Oh what a cool feature iOS doesn't have? iOS has ZERO features.

Trusted locations can help. Something I really, really want Google to implement is trusted Wi-Fi. Please GOOGLE!

As for the prying....the one poster in a specific situation is correct. If a trusted Bluetooth device is paired to the phone, and both are within range, then yes, there can be prying. This is the reason I did a face palm when Google added this. I have been toying with the idea of adding a Bluetooth antenna to both my PCs specifically for this purpose.

I agree that the one downside to having the sensor on the back means it takes a little more effort to unlock your phone on a desk. I also think trusted places is a bad idea, especially if you ever walk away from your desk and don't take your phone with you.

What I have decided on is getting a dock that stands my phone upright. That way the sensor is not against anything, and I can easily just reach my finger to the back and phone to unlock it, while it just sits there at my desk.

If a dock isn't what you want to do, I do think you will have to do a combo of power button + swipe + pin or pattern, or double-tap + swipe + pin or pattern. This takes about 3-4 seconds to do, its not the end of the world.

Personally, I pick my phone up whenever I use it. Regardless of fp sensor location, how is it that big a deal to just pick it up and use it? Maybe it's because I'm partial to smaller phones (regular pixel) but the whole it's sitting on a desk and I never pick it up but just peck at it thing is odd to me but apparently how everyone does things when the sensor is on the front.

Well, you're not the Lone Ranger. I also pick my phone up whenever I use it. :D
