2 weeks in, how do you like your X?

I'm most definitely a noob and beginning to learn more about this particular facet of mobile tech. But what I don't really understand is: (1) What are the advantages of rooting my DX? (2) What limitations will I face if I make the choice to root? Am I voiding official tech support/warranty, etc.?

Thanks in advance for any feedback or re-route to an appropriate rtfm.

I would recommend starting here Motorola X ROMs/Hacks and if looking through there doesn't answer your questions, feel free to start your own thread in there.

Welcome to AC!

Overall, I'd say that I'm completely floored by the inherent capability of this lightweight, hand-held nano-powerhouse. I can't get over the sheer volume of feasible apps for this li'l beast. I love Pandora and porting its feed out through my Klipsch mp3 speaker dock (which was originally built for the iPhuck, but effem). I can't wait to see how this tool develops and am comfortable with making the 2-year commitment, especially if they're [VZW] considering tiered pricing data plans -- nice feeling being locked in @ UNL for awhile. Also love the HD-out, surprising clarity. Only problem is that my fianc? is feeling pangs of jealousy towards the phone. Oh well, capitalism invented a cure for that problem: I'll just have to buy her one, too!

I was able to get mine for $300 in store on the 15th without contract thanks to an in-store rep and CS rep. All I can say is that this phone is awesome. I could care less about custom ROMs and I've used a lot of them on my D1.

Just waiting to sell my Droid1 now so if anyone reading this is interested in a perfect condition D1 with two black snap-on cases, screen protectors and all original accessories, just PM me.

This device takes my pictures, keeps my schedule, entertains me with Pandora radio and my tunes from my computer, helps keep me updated with local police and medical scanner, it helps me waste time sometimes with stoopid games. It allows me to stay in touch with my teenager kid, my brothers and sisters, my friends and coworkers about my job with texting and pictures. Swype technology makes my texting MUCH better. This phone allows me to show beautiful pictures of our beach vacation and videos without people squinting. It allows me to quickly look up phone numbers with 3G abilities. It keeps me updated with news and weather constantly. It keeps my home email up do date. I play Scrabble with people I've never met. I have my Bible with me all the time and I can search how much BioShock2 is going for on Ebay for my son while we are in Best Buy. It shows me my Netflix movie that is headed to my house. It keeps me up to date with my friends on Facebook. It navigates me if I get lost. It keeps notes of things I need to do. It plays White noise for background noise for a quick powernap. And, it's just fun to have around while it looks incredibly sexy.:)
OH..
and it makes great phone calls too.

What app is local police and medical scanner??? sounds interesting

I'm loving mine. It's the most enjoyable phone that I've owned. RIM is all about satiating the corporate world (and they do that well), while Google wants to make the individuals out there happy. They're doing an outstanding job!

I couldnt be happier with the Droid X. Everything i want to do on it, it DOES. Once i solved my wifi issue i have nothing but love for my phone. Its also a great feeling when someone sees you with it and they go "aww you got one, i have been trying to get one and i cant". Gives me that evil little giggle in my head. I have my whole family trying to get one since i have been showing them all the cool little features. I wouldnt trade this phone for anything. Im def gonna be happy with this for the next 18 months no matter what else come out.

I love it enough that I have finally ended my iPhone envy. Because of this phone, I don't care if Verizon ever gets the iPhone. And that's saying a lot coming from a die hard Mac fan.

i love this phone, but the hard buttons on the face are horrible...i miss the soft buttons on my incredible

i sold my droid 1 for 200, so looks like ill be getting a droid 2, and switch between the 2

Yeah I still have my incredible and it takes getting use to those hard keys over the touch keys , lol . But other then that I think the DX is awesome ,much better then the motorola I had before. That one was the Moto Q lol :D

I love my X!!! It is my first Android phone coming off of Blackberry and I am not looking back. I have my 1 or 2 gripes as i am sure we all do but no phone is perfect, though the X may be the closest thing. Overall this is hands down the best phone I have ever owned. I love how solid it feels and I for one am becoming a big fan of the Moto UI. I am excited to be a part of Android now and it also excites me to think of future updates and what is possible with Android in the future especially on this beast.

It amazes me the stock features it has too. The 4.3" screen is simply stunning and the camera can easily replace a point and shoot for some random photos. All of the google apps are incredible as well. I couldn't believe how awesome the google maps app was, with navigation, for FREE!!! I canceled my VZ Navigator right away after test driving the google navigation beta. I am still getting used to everything and how it all works but the more I do the more I fall in love with this thing. I still haven't fully customized all of my home screens and I am constantly moving things around.

I can't keep my hands off the phone and I am constantly playing with something on it yet still the battery amazes me as well. Even with all of this playing around and usage I get a full day no problem. This phone is only going to get better with updates and I hope Moto shows heavy support for this phone in the future.

Love it. Smokes my old iphone 3G in every conceivable way. I've had no problem with it, and the level of customization is incredible. Can't wait for 2.2 to be available.

I really like my X, but I'm having some troubles that bug me.

For one, I was able to easily use WiFi tethering from my Verizon MiFi at my inlaws in Wahoo, Nebraska but for some reason I can't seem to keep a Mobile Hotspot 3G link from my Droid X for more than a few minutes. Considering that this is the main reason I opted to spend an extra $20 a month for the 3G Mobile Hotspot feature, that's really annoying.

Really wish there was more control at a system level for bluetooth headset controls... I don't like to have to juggle between applications to know which program is going to respond to the "play/pause" button. Every press is a surprise!

WiFi is a bit touchy... it seems to have problems automatically connecting to my router when I come home from work, I have to kind of prod it along.

I really miss Words with Friends and Scrabble on the iPhone.

That said, I love swype, I love sync-free podcast solution in Doggcatcher, I love the screen size, I really love Google Navigation...

I absolutely love this phone. I'm one that is having problems with freezing and lock-ups and I still love this phone. VZW has a new phone on its way to me and I have confidence that my issues will be fixed. This phone does everything that I need it to and then some. On top of being a great phone, it holds my schedule, to do list, grocery list, reminds me to pay bills, allows me to see where my finances are, take pictures and videos of my kids without carrying my P&S, entertains the kids with Dora puzzles and ABC flash cards, entertains me with games and the web, helps me keep in touch with family and friends on facebook....the list goes on and on. It's just a workhorse and I wouldn't trade it for anything right now.

I Love my new x. I wish that I could view my sons daycares web cam like on my old bb storm. Hopefully 2.2 will make this possible. Other than tha im all smiles. Can't keep my hands off of my X

It's a solid phone. With Kindle and Slingplayer now available, it takes care of all my work- and play-related needs like a champ! It runs more 'smoothly' than the original Droid and the screen is superb. Np regrets here.

I like this phone alot. I'm a little disappointed with Google's Gmail app. No copy and paste? Did I miss something?

I love the X. Hands down the best phone i've ever used and i've owned blackberries winmo other androids and the original iphone. Awesome performace and it can do everything and more than i need.
