how is that possible? it wont charge normally at all. my phone was one 1 percent when i turned it off plugged into the computer. upon booting up in recovery mode i heard the sound you hear when a usb has been connected to the PC. so i left it for a minute or 2 and then it was on 2 percentm (when i turned it back on). how do i fix this without wiping data?

Try this, charge it the way you can to about 5 or 10%, THEN plug it in the regular way, that is with a regular boot, and plugged in to an electrical socket. Let it charge for a few hours and THEN see if it has picked up any more of a charge. Sometimes when a battery is completely drained, and not used for a while, it has a tough time charging. It's also possible that something is wrong with the battery itself, the phone, or the charging port.

That's a very old phone (BUT a goodie, I had one many moons ago), and perhaps it's time to upgrade to a newer model? If NOT a brand new financed phone, then maybe a newer used phone? Note 5 maybe?
