24 hrs with the Galaxy Note 5 from an Iphone 6+ owner

Thanks....but closing the apps is probably more of a OCD thing, than anything else! :-D

Oh I understand OCD stuff, but you really don't need to do this. You really will get better performance not doing this. Android runs better with some full RAM, promise :)

I have all 4....iPhone 6 plus, Note 3, Note 4 and 5

And after a week with the Note 5, "i personally" get better battery life out of the Note 5 than I got from any of the others.

This is good news, thx. I have the 6 Plus too. I did all the things you mentioned on my Note 3, got great battery life. Those plus all the other details brought up by Kelly Kearns (thx much), battery life should be even better. Now if this cell standby thing could get fixed. I haven't gone back because of battery life & GPS. Not sure if GPS has been resolved yet.

i have a 6+, note 4, note edge , s6 edge, lg g4 and the note 5. I haven't tested the battery life against the iphone yet but everything else it beats so far.

what's not to love with Note 5? TBH, I'm not a Sammy fan until this one. It' s very smooth, fast and super elegant. The SD card and non-removable battery, I can live with that so long as the features compensate.

I haven't been having very good luck with my switch so far. I have been using an iPhone 6+ and finally tracked down a 64gb Note 5 today for Verizon.

All day it has been more annoyances than good events. It started with the Battle.net mobile authenticator app which has a restore mode if you can get into the menu, but you can't with a Note 5 or GS6S Edge+ because when you hold down the back button which works as the menu button for most other apps, it just takes you out of the app.

It's well documented on the blizzard site and a fix may be coming at some point.

So I went for a walk using my fitbit app and a new podcast app. A combination I've done with my iPhone about a hundred times. The fitbit app seemed to keep causing my note to hang, I couldn't even get the lock screen to respond correctly and it seemed like the launcher kept crashing.

I tried again tonight walking the dog, exact same issue. When it was at its worst it would also cause the podcast app the pause.

The battery life has been a huge letdown as well. I've had this thing on the charger about a dozen times now just to get enough power to go a little longer.

I don't know, I'm having a hard time not just returning this thing. I love so many of the features but some of the stuff I use daily like the fitbit stuff is just not working.

What exactly does the restore mode do for the bnet app?

Well I've had the Note 5 for 2 days now. I decided to get one to try something different. I usually switch between Android and iOS every year to every other. This time coming from the iPhone 6+. I think the main draw to the Note 5 was the stylus. I've always wanted a good stylus for my iPad and iPhone, but there just really isn't a good accurate one out there. So having tried a Note 5 at the local Verizon store and Best Buy, I decided to order one.

The first day with the Note 5 wasn't so great. I've been reading the forums about battery life. Turn this off. Turn that off. So I did a few of them. Well two things happened. I work a typical 8 hour day at a school. When I get home I usually have about 60~70% battery life on my iPhone 6+. Sometimes 80% if I hardly use the phone. This is with pushing 5 email accounts and random web and FaceBook browsing during lunch. Also note that the iPhone was charged the night before with 1 hour of music playing as I go to sleep. With the Note 5 I came home with 30~40% battery. It was charged the night before. No music while I went to bed. Sync/pushing 4 email accounts and random web and FaceBook browsing during lunch. Not so good. Also want to note that my phone would not sync any of my emails or connect to the web after lunch. Weird. On the drive home I started getting my emails and text messages that I missed.

When I got home I decided to recharge the phone again and do some tests with syncing and such. I hoped onto my desk top and sent an email out from my yahoo account to my @me.com account. On wifi, my iPad got the email in 7 seconds. My Note 5 got it in 1min 35 secs. Turned off wifi and my Note 5 got the message in 20 minutes on 4G. Anyways, I decided to turn on my Location services (or just the locaton icon) and then charge the battery for the night.

Day 2. I came home with 71% battery life. Did everything the same as before. Maybe more usage as I did played with the pen for a few minutes. All my emails synced this time and received a few text messages. Even took a few pics. I think the difference this time was my location. It was able to find a cell tower and keep connected. Now I'm not gonna say the battery life is the same because I know it's not from just using it. But it's now enough to get me through MY day at work.

I think the real test for me will be on road trips when I have to use GPS/Google Maps. I know in the past, I have gone on 6 hour round trip road trips running Google Maps the whole way and would get home with about 20% battery on my iPhone 6+. That includes all the email push notifications and random uses of the phone. I'd like to see what the Note 5 can do on a similar trip.

One thing I don't like is how slow the Note 5 is for email notifications. It's not instant like my iPhone. However, my job and life does not rely heavily on my emails. If anyone does find a fix (besides replacing the phone hehe) post it up! Maybe Android M?? Thanks for reading!

This is too funny. I just ordered something on EBay and I instantly got my email notification on my Note 5. 20 seconds later my iPad got it. Then got a 2nd email from the seller. Still haven't got it on my iPad. Ok, now make that another email I received on my Note 5 instantly. Still nothing on my iPad. I dunno what's going on.... Just reporting in.... This is with a Google account.

I have a big decision to make over the next two weeks. I am traveling to Israel for 3 weeks and am going to be using my phone ALL day and night. Taking pictures, videos, etc.... I can't travel half way around the world and have my phone die... What should I do?? I was thinking getting the LG G4 and have the extra battery in my pocket and between the two, I should be all set. or should I keep the Note 5 and buy an external battery charger and keep it in my pocket?

Such first world problems, but still a problem... I will take my 6+ for sure (my daughter is studying in Israel and FaceTime and Imessage is non-negotiable). I was expecting to carry two phones, but which two? Is there another choice that I am not thinking about?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I travel with a battery pack. Here is an example ...

Happy & safe travels.

Take the battery pack and the Note 5 along, you will miss it if you don't.

Weekend battery test is underway. Charged up both my 6+ and Note 5 and taking them around with me all day and seeing how they fare. Woke up and did some Facebooking and Twittering read a few emails and headed out. Did some navigation to the mall. looked up a few addresses and made a few phone calls and played a few games. I switched back and forth between phones. A typical weekend day for me and it is now 230pm EST and the 6+ is at 49% and the Note 58%...

I played a little longer on the iPhone but made most of my calls (one 30 minute call) on the note...I don't think that either of these are going to last me the night. I am going out to dinner around 6 and I want to keep them off the charger for the day.

I liked my iPhone 6 alot. However, the Note 5 is just amazing. I absolutely love this phone. I missed imessage for the first few days etc but all is gone now. The amount of stuff you can do with this phone and Android in particular is awesome. I've had the Note for about 10 days now. It's been a treat for sure.

Thinking about making the switch from iPhone to the Note. I'm going to wait till after the unveiling of the 6s.

I experienced the opposite. Notifications on iPhone 6 plus in regards to emails were always slow. I used the app mailbox and it got faster. Since getting the Note 5 my notifications are instantaneous. Love this phone.

Man why is the iPhone 6 plus battery getting all this love . We have both on our family plan and the only thing the plus has on the note 5 is stand by time . My brother uses the 6 plus as a dispatcher and is constantly on it and drops like a rock upon use . Note 5 with same usage gets a bit better . What I love about the note 5 is that its a big phone yet feels compact . It's narrower than the 6 plus which has a smaller screen . Can't beat the design and screen I'm going note 5 until 2016. Best android I have owned . Also beware and wait for battery tests on iphone 6S plus as it's rumored that apple has reduced the size of the battery to 2750 mah. I know they will tout software improvements but the battery life on the iphone was always average . The 6 plus got more love because it was bigger . Wait until the iphone 7 when apple possibly does away with the home button and starts talking about how big their phone is yet feels smaller . I can see the Jony Ive video now lol. The iphone 6 plus is a poorly designed after thought to get a bigger screen to market . I venture to guess if will be addressed in the 7 in 2016.
