$25 Play Credit

Where can I find my credit?

I have the transformers movie and other free stuff in my play store, so I know my account is linked to the device. But when I tried to buy a paid app, the only payment option was my credit card in Google wallet. :-$

I have the transformers movie and other free stuff in my play store, so I know my account is linked to the device. But when I tried to buy a paid app, the only payment option was my credit card in Google wallet. :-$

In my case, I got an email when I set my account up on my device informing me of the credit that was available. Whenever I go to purchase something (even if it's free) it tells me about it, and I can also see the credit by logging into Google Wallet ( https://wallet.google.com ) and clicking on "payment methods".

If you did not get that initial email, it's possible that somehow the credit did not "stick". You can try a factory reset - going through the setup process again may apply the credit. You can also contact Google.

About the only circumstance that you would not be eligible for the credit is if you bought it used or as an open box return.

After I put in my google account info, it was already credit to me. It might be because I have used the wallet before with my CC, and it just credited to that account because it's been used? Dunno, but it was a simple setup in my direction.

I bought my Nexus 7 tab (sealed box) in Australia, and added my Google account and card details to wallet. I could never see the $25 credit in purchase options. Contacted Google support and I was asked to apply factory default setting. I don’t see any change even after doing it (backed up account information and restored it). I believe I should be able to make purchases in AUD irrespective of where I access it from. I purchased apps but money gets debited from my card as I dont even see an option to select $25 credit offered by Google.

Any pointers?

Cheers

I had the same problem with the $25.00 credit. I made the mistake of putting my credit card information in the wallet when I first bought the Nexus, Every time I ordered an app it was charged to my credit card and I never got the credit from Google.
I called Google Play and got no real answer.
I finally did a factory reset and made sure I didn't put any credit card info into Wallet and then I was able to get the $25.00 credit.
I never was able to get a credit to my credit card charges from Google Play Store but a least I was able to get the $25.00 credit...
There is another thread on this forum about the $25.00 credit...

Long story short, you must have a credit card hooked up to your account before they credit you. Probably to keep people from factory reseting the device and abusing the $25

it was a limited time offer for preorders. from what I have been told the credit is linked to the devices serial number and only the first batches shipped are linked to it. this does not mean you cant still pick one up from an outside retailer like Staples and have the credit. that just means they still have original ones from the "preorder" batches in stock.

I could be wrong but this is what multiple csrs have told me form a few retailers.
you cant come late to the game and expect the preorder perks guys. if you get the perks now count yourself lucky and be grateful. :D

Discover Nexus Devices <-- lower left corner.

Google Nexus 7 16GB Tablet | Staples? <-- click product details, the very first bit of verbiage is touting the credit.

The $25 credit is still being offered, both on the retail units and the Google Play units. It is a limited-time offer but it's still going on.

The only perk for pre-ordering is that you guys got to watch the horror that is an overloaded launch-day distribution system and get your paws on them a day or two before (or in a few cases a day or two AFTER) stock started trickling in to local stores.

I'm not sure about adding a credit card to the wallet. The $25.00 credit must be attached to your Nexus ID number, not to a credit card.
When I did the factory reset to default, I did not add a credit card to the Wallet app. and I am able to get the $25.00 credit.. I was told to do this by customer support.
I really don't know but would be interested for someone to tell us the facts...

I already had a Google Wallet account with a valid credit card, and the credit applied just fine to mine as well. So I don't think it matters whether you have a credit card attached to GW or not.

I was already fully plugged into the Googlesphere, having already owned several Android devices, and having been a Gmail user since the early "invite-only" beta days (for snits and googles, I just checked and still have my "welcome to Gmail" email, dated in June of 2004) and a Google Voice user since GrandCentral was in early beta. My Google Wallet account was set up to buy a new number on Google Voice several years ago.

It may be that there's some sort of a glitch in setting up new accounts in Google Wallet and crediting them, and the factory reset may simply be re-trying the application of the credit.

For new Googlers, it might be worth going through the steps of setting up a rudimentary Google account (Gmail and Google Wallet at least) so the foundation is already laid down before you power up the Nexus. Then setting up the Nexus should be a much simpler process and you've done all the "hard work" on a larger screen with a proper keyboard.

That will also allow you to start out properly with two-step authentication anyway, and save the hassles of upgrading to it later.

YES! There are enough people having this problem that it should be in their FAQ. :p

I used Google Wallet to pay for the N7 from the Play store, so there is a credit card associated with the account. It's also a Gmail account I have 5+ years so it's not new by any stretch of the imagination. No luck getting the credit when I configured the device last month.

I did a factory reset last night and redid the configuration and still no luck.

You received yours direct from Google so it shouldn't be a refurb/return unit, and you already had an account, and you've done the reset and tried again. Next step is to call Google and ask what to do, because you've done everything correctly so far.

They may have a bad entry in their database under your serial number or someone else managed to redeem that serial number through more nefarious means. In either case, they should be able to simply reset the serial number in their system and allow you to properly claim the credit due to you, probably by doing another reset.

Here's what finally worked. I'm not sure it makes sense, but it did work...

1. From a computer, log in to wallet and remove the credit card.
2. Log out
3. Do a factory reset of my Nexus 7 and then power it down.
4. From a computer, log in to wallet and add the credit card.
5. Power up my Nexus 7 and do the set up.

At the end of set up process, the Nexus 7 screen said something about the credit. I also got the "Your $25.00 Google Play credit is ready to use" message in gmail.

The process seems more witch doctor than high tech  but it's hard to argue with success. :D

Congrats! Glad you got your credit. :-)

Personally I had no problems. I purchased my N7 direct from the Google Play store so obviously I had a CC on file with them when I set up my N7. After putting my email I to the N7, I immediately got an email stating I had a $25 credit waiting. It was seamless so I feel bad for you folks that legitimately should be getting credit but aren't.

Use the instructions UnicornRancher so graciously posted. If you still can't get your credit, its thine to contact Google.

Remember this is a LIMITED TIME offer so Google can pull it at any time so hurry up!

From all the posts I see concerning the problems with the $25.00 credit including my own problems I think Google should take a break from counting all their money and post instructions on a fix.
Google has a moral obligation to address this problem and post a fix for all the unhappy customers.
I for one called Google Nexus customer service and got no satisfactory answer...

I agree they should have a better FAQ but to give credit where credit is due, the suggestion to remove the visa card (used to purchase N7 btw) from wallet and log out, then log back in and add the visa card back to wallet was actually from a Google/Nexus csr on the phone.

Like I said, it sounds more like voodoo than computer science, but if I have to sacrifice a chicken to get it to work... :D:D

I ordered my 16 gig unit from the Play Store after the pre-order period and received a $25 store credit.

AFAIK, the credit should be attached to the account and not to a particular device (of course, there should be some check to ensure that credit issued to an account is not misused to download apps to a different device) or a credit card. That was what the support folks told me, too. I tried factory reset twice (with and without credit card details in GW). Its painful as one has to download all apps again (some apps I have are of 300+ MB) and install them (had a tough time with Google Earth as it disappeared after installation). I have no clue as to what the real fix is. Every time I speak to the Google support team I am told I did the right things and the technical support team would look into it (there were a couple of mails exchanged too). But I have no other option now than using my credit card to purchase apps. I would request support team to suggest a proper fix and do whats required in their end to issue the credit that was promised (I had bought my tab a month ago and don’t think I was late to get this credit)…:-[
