What are your thoughts on phones removing the 3.5mm headphone jack?
Do you think Samsung will keep it for the next Galaxy?

List of phones without a 3.5mm headphone jack:

Moto Z
Moto Z Force Droid
HTC Bolt
HTC U Ultra
HTC U Play
HTC U11
HTC U11+
iPhone 7 and 7 Plus
iPhone 8 and 8 Plus
iPhoneX
Xiaomi Mi 6
Huawei Mate 10 Pro
Essential Phone
Razer Phone
Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL
LeEco Le S3
LeEco Le Pro 3
LeEco Le 2
LeEco Le 2 Pro
LeEco Le Max 2
*The list continues to grow so I may have missed some...

Soon it seems all flagship phones will eliminate it - other than possibly Samsung(hopefully).
I'd much rather have my 3.5mm headphone jack - it's far from redundant imo...

Yes, I use bluetooth earbuds but sound quality & volume just isn't there... yet - maybe when bluetooth 5 is a thing but it still won't be what wired can give. Then there's always having to pair my headphones and keeping them charged.
What happens when my battery dies or I leave them at home? I always have a spare set of wired buds in my gym bag or car.

Yes, all phones still support wired connections... but the problem with this, however, is that they lock you into your phone’s particular ecosystem and they are nowhere near as cheap as the classic 3.5mm plug alternatives. You can buy a pair of USB C headphones for 150$ or you could just buy a cable - not the headphones- for 100$. The price isn't dropping in the foreseeable future either. Yes, you can buy an awesome dongle for much cheaper with sound quality only suffering a bit but I should not have to lose any sound quality/volume with a wired connection. The market is so fragmented & what will work with one phone may or may not with another. USB-C remains a nightmare to navigate since its implementations vary across hardware manufacturers, and it’s difficult for a headphone company to guarantee its headphones will work with everything.
In the future these issues may be corrected but how long until then? Why not keep the jack until that point?

Can you still listen to FM radio without the headphone jack & using the wired headphones as an antenna? I really never did but I'm sure some people do.

Mainly, What if I need to charge my phone while I'm listening to music? I can't since my USB C port is in use. For myself there is removed functionality & the headphone jack is not redundant.

I'd just like to hear what everyone elses thoughts are... Am I alone here? Do you not care or is the 3.5mm headphone jack an important asset to your device?

Samsung promised to keep FM Radio accessible for emergency purposes so a 3.5mm jack is necessary for this. But who knows, if headphones can be used as an antenna over USB-C then that could change.

It is the singular reason I have a S9.

Old iPhone 6S needed replacement, all new iphones are out, so that led me to Android. S9 was the logical choice and loving every minute of it.

I hope they keep it around but I'll adapt if they don't. I'm very happy with the latest Samsungs.

I'm really happy with my S9 too... Was seriously considering buying then exchanging for the S9+ but haven't missed the 2GB RAM or the zoom camera. Battery has been good as well. Intrigued by the HTC U12+ and may have went that direction of they'd kept the 3.5mm headphone jack.
I guess we will all have to adapt if they do get rid of it(for those that use/care) but I'm sure you could tell from my post it's not something I'd wanna do lol

Glad I'm not alone & that you're lovin the S9 - great device!

Samsung would be smart to keep the 3.5 since a real differentiator for them now since others OE's went the way of Apple. I prefer the option of charging while jamming and handy if bluetooth buds are dead. Not to mention prefer the sound of wired.

Great minds think alike ;)

It seems like I am always charging something...

2 - Phones
2 - Tablets
3 - Laptops
1 - Power bank
1 - Garmin Vivosmart
2 - Bluetooth Headphones
1 - Pair of Bluetooth Speakers
2 - Wireless (Non Bluetooth) Headphones
1 - Zune (Still use mine)
And all the items I probably forgot about. (Like rechargeable toothbrush)

If I can plug wired headphones into my phone & be on my way, I am thrilled.
Oh please Samsung, keep the headphone jack.

I also have a lot of music in Flac. I'd rather listen to it wired. To me, it sounds better!

I'm the exact same other than I don't use Zune or Flac.. I NEED Samsung to keep the headphone jack and agree although I have several bluetooth headphones I'd much rather wired! Rhapsody or I guess its Napster now sounds so much better wired imo.

I doubt if very many people use a Zune this day & age... I take advantage of mine when I go camping, hiking or fishing. I don't like the thought of my phone taking a swan dive down a mountain or into the river just because I wanted to hear some music. :(

I definitely agree that streaming music sounds better wired. The less chance of signal interference the better.
