30 FPS cap

I haven't seen any new news on this lately. I've searched multiple forums and HTC's site. I've been to the XDA forum, and it is confusing.

Has anyone heard if HTC plans on fixing?

Are there simple steps to root and fix this?

It is kind of confusing i guess... There are ROMS out there that uncap the fps. To my knowledge they do it by refreshing the screen faster. Some say this can damage the screen but some say thats how the HTC HD2 is from the factory. I don't know all the details but what I do know is I've seen first hand someone with a rooted Evo with a custom ROM that had the fps uncapped and it's no placebo effect. It's SO much smoother scrolling around n stuff. Much more responsive too. What I would like more than that though is for HTC to raise the fps capture during 720P videos. 22fps is absolutely unacceptable for "HD". Especially when the competition is doing over 25 and some at 30fps..

My guess is the excuse of it being hardware is just to hold us over and make us forget. Many petitions and things are being put on a lot of forums, and everyone is doing the part of emailing Dan Hesse and HTC to fix the issue. Dan Hesse did email a member back over at XDA and said they are trying to find a fix.

They said it was due to the HDMI port. And thus far I've not seen any reason to suspect that, as every ROM that employs the fps hack, does not have a working HDMI port.

There's no "fix" since it's not "broken".

There's no "fix" since it's not "broken".

Nobody said it was broken, it's just a bump in the road to HTC claiming this can't done. Obviously it can since the Droid X pulls it off.

This can be changed in the software by disabling the HDMI while not in use. Therefore letting the Snapdragon use full GPU, it's just up to HTC to find something stable to let this happen.

There's no way to just limit fps when an HDMI is plugged I guess??

You want a fix. Hence you think it's broken.

I have read your posts here and over at Androidforums, and you sir don't need to flame anyone. So if you don't have any information on this issue don't post. Don't flame other members who have been researching such an issue since before it's release. I would use the word broken, if that was the case. Which in my post, not once word is broken. A "fix" can mean finding a solution.

The HDMI out is problematic and a joke anyway. They should have just nixed that idea and went for as much fps as it can muster.

I have never experienced one issue with the HDMI yet. So that claim is baseless... The HDMI is a fantastic idea, but it would be better to actually show the home screen on the tv.

yeah. Home screen and showing the home screen and pretty much duplicating the evo screen

So basically, I am hearing that a "fix" is unlikely. That is a bummer. The Epic is looking a little more likely than it was a week ago.

Please show me where in this thread I'm flaming. Perhaps you need to revisit the definition of the word.

Sorry, but most people that have tried have issues, even with new displays. Thanks though.

So from what I am understanding.. The 30fps can be changed in the software. Just HTC probably won't do anything about it.. Maybe they figure let the android people hack an d mess with it. So maybe if someone kind find a way to lift the 30fps and still have HDMI out work.. They might be able to make an app for the evo and make some money!

I think htc won't do anything about the 30fps issues because the geek to average person ratio is probably about 10 to 1 with one being the geeks. The average person don't notice anything wrong with their frame rates and probably can care less about increasing it...so why try to fix something thats not broken to satisfy a few geeks...i'm okay with it.

I'm so glad I rooted my phone and flashed a rom/kernel with a fix.

It's a night and day difference. Performance increases tenfold.
To others it may not seem like a "problem"...
But to me it's a problem and needs a "fix"...

Yeah, I got an e-mail from HTC saying that they are looking into it.

This I would agree with. I think the majority of us don't know enough about it to even care. To be honest with you, if there weren't any threads about this on the forums, I wouldn't be aware that there was a problem. This fps cap ahs not affected me in the slightest. But hopefully when the EVO 2 is released, the issue will be addressed and everyone will be able to enjoy the device fully.

An Aria made my phone look like crap on a side to side comparison... His UI looked gorgeous compared to the way my Evo was stuttering around... To me, that's a problem.

The firmware fix is coming, dont ask how, i just know. It will be here by end of year. HTC does not see it as a huge problem but since people did complain they are working on it.
