30 FPS cap

An Aria made my phone look like crap on a side to side comparison... His UI looked gorgeous compared to the way my Evo was stuttering around... To me, that's a problem.

This

The evos screen looked so much better with the colors and screen res but the Aria destroyed my Evo with the all around buttery smooth operation... that ticked me off more than a little.

Question, is it true what the xda devs say? How the hd2 uses the same "refresh twice as much" method they are doing to the evo to fix the cap? If thats the case then im not so worried anymore about screen durability, and i can buy a bigger mah (but same size) battery for the slight drain

I hope this 2.2 root happens soon because i rather have a perfectly working evo than switch to the epic

The HTC HD2 doens't have the cap either. playing around with the Win Mobile 6.5, it's buttery smooth, and scrolls to the touch. Next to my phone, his phone looked as if his phone was faster than mine, which made windows mobile look better than android!

But at any rate, we know it's the EVO.

What do you mean?
Simple things like panning through the app drawer, swiping down the notification bar, and scrolling the contacts list is so buttery smooth on the aria that is makes the choppy evo look slower in comparison

xda said that the hd2 forces the screen to refresh twice as often to increase framerate (which is what the fps fix does to the evo) i want to know if thats true. Because the hd2 dropped my jaw when i saw how flawless the start menu scrolling is...

All other android phones operate up around 50 fps in the general UI parts of the OS. There is no risk of damaging the screen when this is the norm. Google even says that they target 60 fps for the OS and hit that number most of the time. Obviously hardcore games don't. But the general UI sure does.

Sometimes I hate how HTC releases so many phones. It gives them less responsibility for each one.

They need to release the Froyo drivers for better graphical performance.
Dell Thunder with the same processor gets 37fps on Neocore and 18.6fps on Nenamark.

My Evo with CyanogenMod Froyo with 30fps fix + Snap Kernel OC'd to 1.075ghz gets 31fps on Neocore and 18.0fps on Nenamark.

Big difference.

Lol, not much of a fix then, is it.

Unlocked 30fps cap won't fix all graphical issues. However, it fixes the touchscreen lag. That's the biggest difference.

Before I got the dirty fps cap hack, my Neocore was 25fps and Nenamark was 10fps.

Between the Dell Thunder and the Evo... that's 10fps difference on Neocore and 8fps difference on Nenamark.
That's 40% increase in Neocore.
And... 80% increase in Nenamark.

Fixing the 30fps cap brings HTC only halfway to the point where the Dell Thunder and the Acer Liquid gets.

In real life situation, the 30fps cap fixes most of the UI being slow issues. Using another launcher fixes the last of the UI issues... I'm using ADW with 30fps cap fix and it's smooth as butter.

Also, if you got your free version of Let's Golf (which I suggest you go do!)... you'll notice framerate issues. That's because the game constantly goes above 30fps at times, but can't so it slows down.
Same happens with Raging Thunder II.

I have an Evo. I have had one since day one. I have NEVER had any lag in the UI. I think most of the "probem" is geek envy. Someone else's phone got more FPS then mine. boo hoo, boo hoo.

It was well known before this phone was released that HTC had a 30fps cap on it. If that is bothering you so much, you should have never bought the Evo to start with.

Not flaming anyone here, but some of you need to grow up and stop being such whinny little b......

Try testing your Evo against an Iphone or Nexus One... or heck, even an HTC Aria.

It's not gonna fix during benchmark tests. But set the evo next to a nexus one and the difference is tremendous, like night and day. It sucks what HTC did to the evo in this respect.

Same old response from HTC:

Thank you for taking the time to contact HTC America Technical Support via E-Mail with your inquiry about your Sprint EVO 4G by HTC. I understand how important it is for you to have this information about your device. The EVO 4G does have a maximum frames per second (FPS) of 30. This decision was made to enhance the overall performance of the device. At this time, we do not have any information on when or if a software update will be available to change the FPS.

This can be changed in the software by disabling the HDMI while not in use. Therefore letting the Snapdragon use full GPU, it's just up to HTC to find something stable to let this happen.

Is there a tweak or any way to make a manual edit to do this? I have an HD2, and been a pc tech for eons, so know my way around Windows registry. But I don't know Android or any of the "ix" OS systems.

I really like the EVO, but sure did love my HD2 a lot too! Just hated T-Mobile and their poor signal strength in my area. The HD2 with Cookie Monster's tweak was awesome. And there were a number of D3D and 3D tweaks/drivers, and manila tweaks to make it even better. Android may have more apps, but it appears to me that WinMo was more tweakable. And as I never kept a car, PC, or anything else stock for more than a few days, WinMo was more fun for me. If only Sprint, VZW, or AT&T were allowed to sell the HD2, .........

Yea I know windows mobile isn't that great but it runs very we'll on the HD2. I guess it sucks if you don't have Tnobile coverage. My aunt has an HD2 and is in a great Tmobile 3G area. I still prefer Android though.
