I just got my Nexus 5 in and I want to switch to TMobile from Verizon, although my contract is not up until 12/16.

I'd still like to activate my new phone on TMobile, especially with the $30 a month plan (100) minutes....since Ill have my Verizon phone to use to talk.

My question are, if I sign up for the $30 month plan now, is it easy to change plans (for more minutes) later on? Also if I sign up for this plan now, will they be able to port my old number to my new phone right before my Verizon contract is up?

Thanks

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm on hold right now because trying to activate online to get the $30/month plan with 100 minutes and unlimited data didn't really work. I got this page at the end http://www.t-mobile.com/

I called and the 1st lady I spoke to rushed me through and signed me up for SOMEthing, but I don't know what! So, I asked to speak to a supervisor, and he has me on hold trying to get my the correct rate plan. He said it was something with the system updating, I don't know. Bad day to have the system update!

Anyway, the manager was able to get the correct $30/month plan on my account and I'm refilling my account online as we speak.

To answer your other questions, you can move up to a more expensive plan later on, but this $30/month thing is for new activations only, so if you wanted to eventually move back down to it, it would involve getting a new sim card, and going through activation again, which would get you a different phone number.

I've head you can port your number later on. The way I understand it, the porting process cancels your service for you at Verizon.

I did a lot of research on this plan back in January. So I could be out of date... I believe the "new activations only" mentioned by the previous poster is correct. So if you upgrade you can't downgrade back to it. (In general with prepaid it's very easy to change plans - going back to this $30 plan is the one exception.) But, if you have money loaded in your account additional minutes are 10? a minute which still might be better than a more expensive plan depending on your usage. I needed more minutes which is why I ended up with Solavei. They're the best deal for my needs.

I don't know about porting into T-Mobile, but when you port a number out of an account it will close that account.

You can port your number over whenever you like. That part is easy.
The others are correct that once you move away from the $30 plan you cannot go back to it with the same phone number.
Moving your Verizon number to Google Voice will allow you to move from and back to this plan whenever you like. Though you do have to deal with the problem of having 2 different phone number for texting if you go with Google Voice.

I would start your PP account with a new number and port your Verizon number over so that you still have a working phone during the port process. Also, something I learned the hard way...make sure that when they ask for your Verizon account number do not include the dash in it. My port was stopped because of that and luckily I found a very nice T Mobile associate that got it all figured out.

Personally I love the 30 dollar plan. The service is on par with Verizon where I live, although I do realize that it won't be like that everywhere. So far so good.
