30+ Reasons Why You Should Buy A Nexus 10

"Tablet Optimized Apps" is pretty misleading, given that every since 4.0 ICS, many (perhaps most?) apps are defaulted to scale appropriately through the integrated OS. This is more or less how they account for differences is screen size, etc. as well. "Optimizing" doesn't necessarily require a different app, it can be coded behind the scenes to show more options or a different layout within the same app, lessening costs for paid apps and centralizing reviews, comments, ratings, etc. and lessening confusion overall.

thats what i love about android. i use mint app and it look different on my nexus 4 and 10.
I dont have to download 2 different app for my tablet and phone like they do on ipad and iphone.
simple and less confusing.

I don't have to either some developers do that but not all for example I have wunderlist installed on my iPhone and iPad and that was universal.

Agree, that functionality exists on both platforms, but it's not a "Tablet Optimized" app. The difference is really only in the extra storage space and/or extra cost of the App(s) to most end users. I'd rather not have Tapatalk 2 and Tapatalk HD, would be awesome to combine them and make the "Optimization" be behind the scenes.

Some games I've already paid for on previous tablets I can't even download on my Nexus 10...

@ Cynic: That's on the developer's side. Many games by Gameloft I played on my phone have the same problem where they aren't compatible with my N10, but that's up to the developer to make it compatible, it's not the tablet's fault. It's one of the side effects of the fragmentation of Android that is bound to happen to an open-source OS..

true. gameloft is nasty with that. I bought Asphalt 6, worked on my nexus S and HP touchpad running Android. now it doesnt work on my 4 and 10

Guess what?? Asphalt 7 works on nexus 4 and 10. suc it gameloft! never buying a game from you ever again.

To spark discussion:
Nexus 10 Review - Bonnie Cha - Product Reviews - AllThingsD

While the screen is amazing and so is 4.2.2 the review does note that a big disappointment was a lack of apps.
I always call people out on this to ask specifically which apps that are so sorely lacking and truly every time I ask I get comments like Garage band etc. The game you mentioned has nothing to do with the Nexus 10 and everything to do with the developer doing a poor job. Are there better apps on Apple? Probably but there are also better apps on Android. Reviewers rarely if ever do a great job of listing said apps. I have never found any app to be lacking on my Transformer Prime in the year or so I've had it.

It's probably more of a Jellybean thing that hasn't been updated yet.

I would love to know if there are alternatives to Apples iWork suite on tablets. In college my ipad is so useful for taking down notes, and when ai get home my MacBook Pro has it all synced up and ready to use. Of course not everyone uses OSX:P

Google Drive (Docs, etc) has very similar functionality, but if you're already invested in the iOS and OSX universe, it's hard to get other programs to integrate.

Yeah I have that issue with my nexus 4 but I've fixed certain things like using Dropbox for camera uploads to my Mac and iPad and also using Chrome far more for multi device syncing, I just suppose how you've done things and what you are used to, personally I would not get a single Android tablet(unless it was for free or strictly for entertainment.

Yes Google docs would do this perfectly. It would be shared with every device you connect it to. We use it in our office to share project information and to collaborate. Works great.

Who makes the determination as to what devices an app can run on? The Developer? Google?

What prevents a Developer from creating an app for a phone then reselling the same app as a Tablet only app.
The scaling is one of Androids great features are there any checks and balances in place to prevent abuse?

Exactly what crxssi said above. Developers can place restrictions based on all sorts of hardware and software variables. Here's an explanation of the Play Store filtering system, how it works, and what filters are available to developers:

For anyone interested in the Multiple APK feature for applications on Google Play, you can read about it here. It gets rather technical pretty quickly though, and not as much of it will be relevant to this discussion.

I would love to make my documents show up on other things but I am really far too deal in the Apples ecosystem I can never let go of it because I have spent 300 dollars(IMHO) very useful and good apps.

Fair enough.

But now everyone can see why I find the whole "tablet optimized apps" argument nothing but a pathetic and bad attempt by fanboys to try and give another reason behind why they think Apple is superior to everyone. It's not the OS, it's the people behind the app and Android makes it a very small issue as well. Not that everyone who mentions it is a fanboy mind you.

This is from me, on my EVO 3D.

The Nexus 10 has been proven to have a much better screen than the iPad, and the fact it sold out 2 hours after it was first put on the Play Store proves you're statement about everyone using up ads wrong.

As usual, it's you who knows nothing. :P

The build quality is great with the iPad's aluminium and the soft touch on the Nexus 10. They are pretty comparable the only thing I personally see as an advantage is better apps on the iPad there truly is no contest for me.
