3D Apps

So does anyone know if Google/HTC will open up 3D for developers to make apps (or have they already)? If so, do we know of any that are coming? I assume since games, pictures, and videos are all possible then it's just an .api thing.

Any ideas on cool apps to utilize 3D? I think a file manager with 3D hierarchy would be sweet!
