So the 4S is making waves in the GPU/3D department. I'm just curious, with the exception of games, how important is 3D performance?

I've not run any 3D in the 3 years that I've had an iOS device... I just wonder if other's experience has been similar?

It's important if you play games. For anything else, not really.

In the gaming department, the iPhone 4S is currently better, and even with Tegra 3, the iPhone 4S is currently benchmarking better, but none of the benchmarks are using all the features that the Tegra 3 has to offer, so we'll see how the chips do once 3D Mark has their latest benchmark out.

Well, benchmarks aren't everything, and I've tried running Post Processing Effects and some other high end features on a Tegra 2 and Samsung Galaxy Tab (PowerVR 540, tile-based renderer like the iPhone 4S). The results were a bit unexpected. The Tab couldn't even run it as far as I saw, and the Tegra 2 was going at 20 FPS. The tiled-renderers look like they increase performance at the cost of special effects, and this is why it smokes everyone at benchmarks that don't use special effects. So the above poster is right.
