Is there a cross or negative correlation between the two? Call me boring but for 10 min or more I have toggled data on and off and each time got this result;

Toggle 3G data on... Signifigant drop on cell reception (according to reception icon)

Toggle Off... Signifigant increase.
The difference is two to three bars each time. This was done with the phone on a flat, stable surface and with my hand in a relatively similar position. If there is this may help to know when in areas with poor reception. I know there are more valuable ways to spend my time, but does anyone have an answer to my useless question?

If you have useless questions I HAVE USELESS ANSWERS! YAY!

What you're seeing is that the are 2G and 3G towers (know-it-alls flame away, this is empirically proven by my customers in large expanses of country side where a 3G phone right next to a 2G phone gets signal in a total dead spot for the 2G phone.)

I would assume what is happening is your phone is seeing 3G service at higher priority than 2G, so when you turn off mobile data your phone flips to the stronger signal of a nearby 2G tower, when you turn data on it gives priority to a further away 3G tower. You can now sleep soundly with my useless answer :D find better ways to spend your time hence forth! :cool:

i am always having reception problems when i am at home. verizon bought out my provider and i switched over to verizon early just to get a smart phone. the problem is the towers won't switch to verizon until august. now i am stuck with a great toy with poor reception. so how do i turn off data so i can see if it will help my reception?

In the notifications window you should have the mobile data switch. Are you on the newest radio? Might want to check the stickies for it if not
