3G constanty lit?

Ok so I updated to froyo yesterday, and now I am noticing that the 3G icon is lit all the time unless I send a text. When I send a text it switches to 1X.

In 2.1, I beleive the switching to 1X for a text was there. But I know that the 3G and data arrows would be grayed out unless data was being used.

Now, in 2.2, the 3G is lit all the time, but the data arrows come and go. Is this supposed to be this way?

I'm removing all widgets and setting all things back to manual refresh and doing a battery pull to see if I can fix this. The reason I am concerned is that having the 3G icon lit in 2.1 (even without data arrows) seemed to drain the battery pretty quick. I noticed this with the chess.com app, which I do not use anymore.

Any thoughts?

Ok, so I've removed any recently installed apps, of which I think was only 1 update actually, but some apps were pre-2.2 so I thought maybe they were an issue.

I've turned off every syncing option. No mobile data always on, no sync, no background data...nothing. Yet the 3G is still solidly lit.

Maybe this is how it was originally supposed to be? Can anyone at least just confirm that yours is doing the same thing?

Just sitting on my desk, the 3G is lit, but the two arrows are grey. I think this is part of the updated signal reporting that was touted by Verizon with this update.

Ditto on 3G being lit and arrows grey, thats normal , of course when arrows not grey its doing something (ex. syncing, etc) :)

Thanks David, it was really bugging/worrying me since it was slightly different in 2.1 (3G and arrows were grey).

I've been playing with all the stuff so much that I couldn't tell if the battery was taking a hit or not.
