3G coverage

My question is this...

Should the 3G indicator at the top of the screen stay lit, if the phone is not doing anything, I.E. charging, holstered, etc....

mine is grayed out and most of the time, whenever I hit the internet or my inbox it lights up and the arrows move.

I do not have Froyo on my phone.

I'm not quite understanding the problem.

It should only move and light up when using data, if your not using data the arrows wont move or light up.

The 3G indicator, to my knowledge has nothing to do with charging or placing the phone in a hostler.

Correct, but should the 3G indicator be lit up no matter what the phone is doing?

May experience with 2.1 was that even with mobile data always on, the 3G would go gray after a certain amount of time. With 2.2 it stays lit constantly, and only the arrows go gray.

I kinda had the same question I posted earlier, when I noticed this after switching to 2.2.

Another here said that on 2.2 it should be lit and when using data the arrows will light. I think I believe that but I have no "hard" evidence.

It seems that if you are in 3G coverage it should stay lit...that makes sense. Then the data arrows are just for data...also makes sense.

Maybe this is/was the constantly searching and dropping for 3G issue for 2.1, and now its fixed in 2.2? I dunno, but I hope this helps anyways.

I notice on 2.1 with your phone laying around that the 3G would not be lite up as well (or grey),as the arrows would be grey too.

When actually web browsing it would light back up, as well as then the arrows would light up when being used for stuff.

With 2.2(froyo) the 3G stays on all the time, the arrows light up on use as mentioned above when being used for stuff.

Just to confirm that above or my $1.00's worth lol
