Is there an easy option to switch between 3G and Edge?

I read there's an option on the international version under "Mobile Network Type" under "Mobile Networks" in settings, but that option doesn't seem to exist in the AT&T version.

I'm in front of a desk most of the time, so I don't need fast speeds to pull down email and messages. Would be nice to save battery for most of the day.

Nope, no way to do it. AT&T has taken this option out of all of their android phones. I believe Cyanogen Mod(Someone correct me if I'm wrong) has it if you are willing to flash a custom ROM to get it.

I'm not too sure just search for toggle 2g widget on the Android market and see if they work. Or flash cm7.

I tried Curvefish's, and I think I tried Widgetsoid. Both took me to the settings menu where the option has been removed by AT&T. Hmm.. between this and tethering, rooting or flashing a custom rom is beginning to get tempting.

If you are on AT&T then you are already on Edge. No need to go to market and get an app. It cost me money to leave AT&T, they have the slowest data of all the carriers in the Boston area. But f you call and ask them they will swear you are on 4G. When did 100 killibits mean 4G???????

Re: 3G/Edge Toggle-- Galaxy 2 option

Here is how to make a Galaxy 2 by T-mobile go into 2g mode.

settings-wireless&network-mobile networks-network mode-Now choose GSM ONLY!

Give it 10 seconds and it cycles to what it call 'G" mode but it check my email fine and the battery last longer.

Can someone add this to an app or widget? I'd buy it! It's pain to go through the manual steps.

For AT&T dial:

*#*#197328640#*#*

PRESS: 1,8,4,3

and to turn 3G back on:

same as above but press 2 instead of 3

It's also pretty lame that the iPhone 3G, 3GS, and 4 all have the option to turn off 3G on AT&T. The iPhone 4s DOES NOT.

Does this really work?
