Hey,
I've noticed that HSPA+ (H icon) doesn't always get activated when needed. I was just browsing my Google Drive files and sometimes (maybe 1/15) it couldn't open a file or was opening it very slowly. Each time when that happened the 3G icon didn't change to H (which is considered 4G). I'm thinking..... why doesn't the phone always keep 4G activated as my previous phone did (SGSII)? On SGSII 4G was always displayed, unless I was in a 3G area.

PS: my H/3G icons are white, signal bar is blue.

The Galaxy Nexus is just more honest about what connection it's on, and will properly display the 3G icon when connected to UMTS, usually when the connection is idle. It'll then switch to the H icon when connected to HSPA+, usually when transferring data down/up. The branded carrier phones with custom firmware often just show the H/4G icon all the time, regardless of whether or not the phone is connected to HSPA+ at that very second.

The connection sitting at UMTS on idle then switching to HSPA+ when transferring is working as intended. What you're seeing is the result of a network issue, not a cause. The phone isn't switching to HSPA+ properly from UMTS, and the result is the page won't load or the Google Docs wont refresh.

That's what I thought. It's just wrong displaying on SGSII.... T-Mobile crap..... But I'm very happy that I switched my phone... hate carriers phones with preinstalled crapware and waiting for Android update half a year....
