If you root there is I think ,only way I know of for the dx.

Root your phone and dl wireless tether from the market. Simple and easy and free

Yes. Root and use wireless tether app, although this is a adhoc method. Otherwise, the Hotspot has been hacked to allow use without Verizon data charges.
