Are you talking about the paid version of PdaNet? If so there's a free version available too.

does PDA Net allow you to use the phone as a hotspot, or just to do a wired tether? Also, anyone who currently has the hotspot enabled comment on battery life?

PDA net is only wired tether, not hotspot. It's also not "allowed" by most carriers. They'll turn a blind eye to it for occasional usage, but go wild on the thing and they can bill you per MB overage charges for tethering.

Wifi hotspot will KILL your battery life, so keep a charger handy.

Rooting and than download "Wireless Tether." I use it for the very occasional usage.

I am paying for the $20/month hotspot. Although it does drain your battery, it is faster than I anticipated. It loads pages just as fast as my comcast wifi. I use my laptop as the power source for my phone and or plug it into an outlet or power inverter in the car. Works great in my opinion.

Has anybody actually been charged more for "unlimited use"? I've never had any problems and I use like 10gig a month per phone - two phones. Wireless tether is great.

I don't use it that often. If I wanna play some 360 in my master bedroom, I'll use the wireless tether. After about two hours of playing Halo Reach, I've consumed less than 50MB up/down.

I'll use PDA Net on my main PC to surf with occasionally as well. I haven't downloaded anything major while using my phone.
