3G network for 4G?

I am new here and thinking of getting the Sprint Samsung Galaxy SII 4G. If I look at the coverage in my area it shows very good for 3G, but not as good 4G. I suppose my question is that if this is a 4G phone, will it work on the 3G network?

It'll work on 3G without a problem. You actually have the option to turn 4G on/off whenever you like.
