Got a 3G Verizon Gear S2 Sport Watch - wondering if the band size/connection is the same on this as the standard non-3G version because I want to buy a couple of extra/different replacement bands off Amazon or Ebay for it.

He got the watch from a Verizon S7 promo. Only the 3G model was offered for free.
You are going to see more activity in these forums as these watches are delivered over the next few weeks/months.

sorry , i know this isnt about what you asked but may i ask you why you opted for the 3g

Exactly - it was what Samsung gave me as part of the S7 promo. Of course, that being said, I could have chosen to sell it and buy the non-3G version if I chose. I did consider it - even went to Best Buy this week to compare the two and decide.

While the difference in face size on the two watches is virtually imperceptible, the thickness difference is pretty huge. The 3g is so much thicker underneath. I definitely prefer the slimmer non-3G form factor.

However, I liked the fact that the 3G model has a speaker and built in gps. And I started to think about all those long walks I take my dog on and always feel like I have to take my phone with me and how nice it will be to just be able to wear my watch and leave the phone at home... So I think I will get definite use out of having the 3G service.

Anyway, that's why ultimately I decided to sacrifice the sleekness of the bluetooth only model and keep the 3G version.

From what I understand the bands work on both watches. I ordered a band from Amazon and once I get the watch (this Friday I hope) I will post.

and again , not to hijack this thread. The 3G model sounds cool for the reason you mentioned above but doesn't it mean that you have another phone number for the watch? For the text to come through on your 3G smart watch, does the person who sent the text have to know the phone number of the watch or do they use your cell phone number?

No. You have the option of using Bluetooth only, as both a blue tooth and phone device or as a stand alone phone.
As a Bluetooth only device it works similar to Android Wear in that the text is mirrored to the watch. You can make and receive phone calls from the watch but it uses the phone to complete the action. No new phone number required.
You can also use the watch as a phone. In this case you need a phone number from Verizon. As a phone you can forward your cell phone number to the watch. It will ring on both devices and behave like a Bluetooth device as long as Bluetooth connected. Once the Bluetooth connection is broken, by distance or the phone being turned off, calls will be forwarded to the watch.
You can also use the watch as a stand alone device makng and receiving calls from the watch without the need for another cell phone.
The last two options require a phone number for the watch.

Currently Verizon charges $5.00 per month plus taxes and fees for a connected watch. Is it worth that extra money? That depends on how you want to use your device.

I have the Gear S2 Sport non-3G and a 3G. The bands for these are interchangeable. The new Samsung adapter will give us even more options. https://img.global.news.samsung.com...loads/2016/04/Gear-S2_Band-Adapter_Main_4.jpg

To answer why I got a 3G...I like the fact I can use the watch and not need the phone to make calls. I'm with Verizon and the extra $5.00 is worth it, to me. My "new" phone number is not a problem and I reserve it only for family and certain close friends. The only thing I am missing without the phone is a camera...but I don't take many impromptu photos and I have NEVER taken a selfie. :D
