3G SPEED DROPPED

What was your PING time when you ran speed test?

I dont recall having this issue before Froyo but now my speeds are cut on half at least. I am testing using Speed Test and whats interesting is my PING time is 999 when my speeds are really slow. When its working like its supposed to the PING time is between 100-300. I am also on PRL 60669 so i am wondering if maybe the recent updated PRL has problems. Before i was on 60662 then on 60666 with no problems.

When I run the test at work which is my usual constant, my pings are 800 and greater. Today I dedicated my time to updating PRI, which helped nothing. May try to dedicate some PRL time to downgrade and see what happens.

Another weird thing I see is sometimes my bars are lower and I get better speeds. When my bars are full I get worse???WTF?

I noticed when I flashed netarchy 4.0.2 kernel my 3g speeds went to crap. I flashed back to the stock kernel and 3g speeds when back up to about 1.4 mbps or so.

I downgraded to prl 60666.... seems better at home.. will test at work Monday...

I had the same exact issue as you rooted, so I factory reset, got my PRL to 60662, and havent moved sense. My EVO is blazing on that PRL, but when I upgraded to 60669 it killed my speeds..

So now I am running 60662, wimax 26023, and the 1.xxxx.04.02 radio. Going on a trip we shall see how I do roaming :p

I had to flash back an old 2.1 nandroid i had in reserve.... then used ##775# to set prl with zip I found... then flashed back to 2.2...prl sticks...pain in ***... wish ##775# would work on 2.2.... anyone find a work around... read a little about switching epst files... didn't work... maybe i did wrong

At two bars I'm still getting 1.4 dl but in the last month and a half I still see a wide fluctuatation in bars of service. I have had sprint for close to ten years and have never see this. Everytime I call they try to blame my phone. But I have three phones sitting next to each other and they all do it. Monday I lost voice all together. I getting sick of calling.

I tried every antenna version thinking it was that too and didn't help.
I swear they just can't handle all the traffic from all the new users with data intensive phones.4 g cruises with no slowdown.3g is horrid in the last month or two.
They won't admit it but its like ATT and the iPhone deal.....watch

Well, for all those following, I am back at work on Monday and my speed has gone back to normal for this area. I have to think it was the PRL 60669 that was the culprit. Downgrading to 60666 seems to have done the trick. Just wish there was an easier way with 2.2.

Those that have 3G speed drop...are you guys rooted?

Nope, Not rooted. Running Stock everything.
I have done some more testing and it could be an overloading issue. i went to my parents house for dinner (about 15 miles away) and faster ping time, but still less then half a meg down and 300K up. Ping time was around 400ms.
Returned back to my place near down town dallas, ping time went back to 999ms, DL was under 200k and upload was 150K. That was at 10pm. I then turned on 4G and left it on and plugged into the charger while i slept. At 5am i turned off the 4G and re-tested. 350ms PING, 750DL, 450 UP. I am rounding a bit as those werent the exact numbers.

But again, not sure if thats related to loading or not. I have noticed a few times before if i have toggled 4G on and off sometimes the 3G improves.

Hopefully some sprint engineer is reading these and were helping him or them troubleshoot.

If anybody knows how to downgrade from PRL 60669 to 60666 on a NON rooted, all stock Froyo 2.2 let me know.

I too would like to go back.

Thanks

Im telling you . . . Im willing to bet its overloading the networks.

think about it. . . when did it get slower? (when everyone and their mother got an Evo and now some other cool phones coming out)
Sprint just took on a crap load of new customers since the Evo was incepted. Now that everyone has Evo's and realize 4G isnt readily avail, they obviously default to 3G. Now with this nice new phone that is a datahog and cool features people using gigs and gigs of data per month , that werent recently.

Another point to mention is the inconsistancy like you see above. I have tested this out the wazoo in many areas just to see. If I test during peak times, my chances of getting slower speeds are greater. If I test real early in the morn when most normal people are still sleeping, i can get well over a meg consistant. During peak hours once in a while I will see 500kb-600kb. More though I see 200-300kb

I immediately jump to 4G and get a very consistant connection then. . .Why?. . . not as many people hogging 4G up at the time because they might not be in that immediate area to get it or scared it will kill their battery so they revery back to 3G

Hopefully someone knows a way for a stock Froyo to go from PRL 60669 to 60666. That was the last one i was on when all worked well.

Holy crap you guys, your PRL has absolutely nothing to do with data speeds! Save yourself the effort and don't bother messing with it. It amazes me how many people get so superstitious about PRL's when all they really do is affect Sprint's billing.

doesn't the PRL control what towers you are connecting to though? or does it only control what towers you can "roam" on?

Only roaming towers (actually, I don't think it breaks it down to the tower level - I think it deals with "regions" instead). And really the main thing it affects is the preferred order of roaming partners. So if you are in a non-Sprint area and there are 3 different roaming options (say Verizon, Cellular One, and some other small regional carrier) the PRL just tells your phone which to attempt to use first. The whole point of this is because Sprint negotiates the roaming rate that they pay with those carriers, and they pay different amounts in different markets, so the PRL helps them take advantage of the cheapest rates.

Your phone doesn't need a list of Sprint towers - it automatically connects to them. So if a new Sprint tower goes up in your neighborhood, you don't need an updated PRL to utilize it.

Sorry, but it was worth the effort for me to go through everything to see what worked and what didn't. All I knew at the beginning was the my speed dropped from 1mb to 128kb at work after I had tweak my phone. I spent countless hours flashing different Roms, kernels, PRI, 2.1, 2.2, etc...

The only thing that brought my 1mb back was downgrading my PRL. Period.
Also, Sprint specifically has updates to PRL and they block the easy hash code in 2.2 to rollback the PRL. I am very suspicious of this and have to wonder if the 60669 was used to limit data.
