3rd party launchers and functionality.

I am seriously considering getting the Galaxy Note 2, but I really dont like the look of touchwiz. If I install a launcher like apex, do I lose any functionality? I.E. If the s pen is removed, what happens? If I am on a call, and I remove the S pen, does the note box still come up?

Appreciate in advance any assistance you can provide.

For the most part nothin. You only loose the useless buddy pages and as far as I am concerned it's not a bad thing. So apex or nova freely.
