3rd Party Update 5/16/2011

For those people checking for this update through "AT&T Software Update" in settings, that's not where it's coming from. Go into "Applications" settings and, if you've received the update, you'll see the "Unknown Sources" checkbox. You need to select it and accept the disclaimer and you're all set. You will not receive any indication of this update other than that checkbox magically appearing.

The reason for forums like these is to share information. I don't understand why people post things when they obviously haven't read through previous posts that CLEARLY POINT THIS OUT!

I know it's not a "AT&T software update" and that it's a Silent-push from AT&T, but psychologically, after four full days of waiting and waiting and waiting, it helps to try anything to see if it'll somehow secretly "kick-start" the update!!! Where are you AT&T?!?!?! I simply don't understand the delay :p

I also don't think it's by area-code. I'm in the 508 and still don't have it, and other people from MA have posted, saying that they have it.

AT&T May do it based on when your Inspire was activated or it could be when you activated your service I got my Inspire on February 14 th and been a customer since 1995 and I got the update yesterday. There is no telling what they base the update schedule by but it is happening so be patient.

So, just got off the phone with At&t tech support, they knew nothing of the update for enabling "Unknown Sources" until they contacted HTC. All they say they knew was that update; 1.84.502.11 would be pushed to all selected devices, however, that update is on my phones when you go to Menu/Settings/About phone/Software information/Software number. They said that is the OTA update which enables HSUPA. The email going around Customer Care/Tech Support at At&t states that the "enable Unknown Sources" update is scheduled to be launched as a "push update" from 5/16/2011-5/23/2011. If for some reason you dont receive it by the 23rd, then Tech support is instructed to send it to you manually, you just have to call them and tell them that you haven't received it yet. They were going to manually update mine tonight but apparently the only person in Tech Support that can access a program called "Cross Device Update Manager" is not there tonight, so once again promised that it would be done for me tomorrow afternoon, but they also said it could take anywhere from 24-72 hours for it to get sent to me once they put in the order. I know it's hard for some of you, but you can stop trying to manually check for updates in your "At&t Software Update" file, you will only keep killing your hopes and dreams that on of those times you will magically see it there, not going to happen. When your time comes, just keep checking Menu/Settings/Applications/Development/ when you see "Unknown Sources" at the top of the list, then you'll know that your time has finally come. It wouldn't hurt to turn your phone off/on once in a while, sometimes that's what it takes for the update to finish loading once it's sent to you. Remember, if At&t hasn't left you something in your stocking by the 23rd, call and speak to Tech Support at: 611 on you mobile or if your an insomniac you can call them after hours at 866-801-3600. Don't let At&t get the best of you, it will all work out, I'll do whatever it takes to help the masses get everything we deserve. Remember, WE are the ones with the power, not them, without us they wouldn't exist, stand tall and demand what is entitled to you.

Wow, excellent post Kirchner. Sweet details, that up until now, were not known. Gold star for you, kiddo. :-$

Correction: "Unknown Sources" is in Menu>Settings>Applications

Don't worry. Your not the only one still waiting. It is taking forever for me to get it. I was tired of waiting so I called the tech support people to see if they can push and through and the lady was very rude to me and barely told me anything and then pretty much said goodbye. I don't get why it is taking a select few people so long to get it.

Not worrying. Bigger things in my life to worry about than this hand-held computer that just happens to also make phone calls. :p As I said before, it's just curious.

Yeah, you would think that it would happen a lot faster and that it would be more consistent than what it is.

Does anyone know if you need to leave your data turned on for it to come through? I usually leave mine off and leave the wifi on unless I am away from a wifi spot. I tried leaving it on the other day and for some reason used almost 10mb of data even with still having a wifi connection so I turned it back off again.
