3rd Party Update 5/16/2011

NH, no update yet. All you "big" states and cities obviously get preferential treatment. Thanks AT&T. Thought the money I send you every month was as good as anyone else's.

Don't get your panties in a bunch. I'm in one of those "big" states and cities and haven't gotten it yet while others in my area have. I'm pretty sure AT&T hasn't personally singled you out to pick on.

Im in a big city technically and the 2 ppl i know with inspires havent gotten it yet and neither has my aria. Lots of impatience goin on lol

im in a faily small town and i got it. looks to me like its totally random.

I'm in the outer Houston area and nothing here while I have seen others from Houston get it. I got miffed when I read it and then shook it off. As others have said, it does appear to be totally random but I sure would like to be in the next wave LOL!!

Does anyone know if you need to leave your data turned on for it to come through? I usually leave mine off and leave the wifi on unless I am away from a wifi spot. I tried leaving it on the other day and for some reason used almost 10mb of data even with still having a wifi connection so I turned it back off again.

If you're connected to wifi the push should come through. Also, when you're connected to wifi the phone won't use the GSM radio by default. How did you know it used 10mb of data?

I live in Atlantic City, NJ and haven't received it yet. I just talked to AT&T and the rep there had no idea what I was talking about. He tried getting info from the AT&T site and got nowhere. He eventually came here to Android Central to try and get info on the update. It's amazing that this update has been rolling out for a week and the reps on the customer service line still don't know about it and have to come here to get any info on it.

Its a rollout that callcenters arent supposedto spend their time on. Its a completely different dept handling this.

This forum has one focus, Android. Call centers have blackberry windows and randon feature phone OSs too.

Im jus sayin...

So, you're rolling out a feature to your Android phones that allows them to do something (third-party apps) that they have never been able to do, and has been a fairly big issue with AT&T phones up to this point, and you don't think your call centers should be made aware of that?

Of course there are many different departments at AT&T or any other company. The purpose of the call center is to direct inquires to the appropriate departments. When I dial 611 on my phone, the person on the other end should have some idea of what's going on, especially something of this magnitude. This is a major change for AT&T in their Android business.

The idea that the AT&T call center reps have to resort to coming to a site like this to find out information about their company is absurd.

Im not defending them. Just goin by wat other telecom companies ive worked for do. Theres a call center rep that posted here a few days ago im sure he has an answer. Im just sayin the rollout was meant for another dept to handle as in a dept consumers dont have access to the employees. Call centers are to help with real problems like no service and billing issues.

No update here in San Antonio, TX as of this morning.

Just got my Inspire 4G last Friday, there was an update shortly after I got it, but it must have been for something else...

A little late to report, but it showed up in San Antonio, TX sometime Friday night/Saturday morning (20/21 May)

In my long experience with call center reps (not just AT&T), it's my opinion that there are quite a few out there that are not very good at their jobs. Present company excluded, of course.;)

The most frustrating thing is speaking to one that is obviously not as tech saavy as us.

I'm at the point where I wish I didn't know this update was "coming". Still don't have it yet and it is getting increasingly harder not watching the pot to see if the water is boiling.

In other, but somewhat related news...

...any word on the Netflix folks getting out a version of their app that runs on the Inspire? Have it loaded and can view queue, just can't stream.

got my update after i requested to speak with a sup and was left on hold and hung, she called back with the push and now i have amazon app store with out a root

Don't even bother calling em folks, Web Chat all the way.

Just got my update after a ungodly amount of time.

Wow so much for a silent OTA update happening in the background. I guess I'll need to find time to call.
