3rd replacement

I'm going on my 3rd replacement of the Pixel 2 XL. I swear I'm the most unlucky person in the world.

I received mine during the first week it was released and that one had dead pixels and bluetooth problems. So a week later, Google happily replaced it.

This current and second one began to lose the screen coating. It was a very tiny blotch which I left alone, until a few days ago when it decided to expand to about pinkie print sized.

Hopefully this third one will be THE ONE. I love Google and I missed it everyday as I used an iPhone. I switched back to Android after reading how much better the software had gotten and what better time then to come back with the Pixel 2 XL. I really don't want to have to switch back to my iPhone and definitely don't want a Samsung.

If this 3rd one fails, do you think Google would give me my money back?

Not anything out of the ordinary. I've used screen wipes and micro fiber on all my devices with no issue. On this phone I only had it for 2 weeks before I noticed it. When I tried removing it with micro fiber and it didn't work, I tried the wipes and still no go.

You mean wipes like eyeglass lens cleaners? Don't those use alcohol as the cleaning agent? I've used them before occasionally but sparingly and they smell strongly of alcohol which is pretty strong stuff.

yeah, I wouldn't clean the screen with anything other than a microfiber cloth.

Yeah, cloth only. Those wipes are basically alcohol wipes and that junk will eat through any coating on their. Now, this happened to fast if course... And if the coating wears off, you screen will just smudge like mad, not have weird spots... Just thinking about it for a bit, I suspect it might be a problem with the coating... Not properly stored or mixed... So hitting it with a solvent could screw up a spot here or there.

Still, don't put a solvent anywhere near these screens. None of that stuff if designed for coated screens. My eye doc always warns me to use just a clean microfiber cloth to protect the coating on my specs.

Definitely no alcohol wipes as others are telling you. If you get a stain that won't come off with the cloth a little water should do.

I've used glass cleaners (Windex) on all my phones with no issues, maybe wipe it down with Windex once every two weeks or so.

Exactly.....oleophobic screens are designed that way. A microfiber cloth will wipe away most residue. If there is something like a soda or coffee stain a damp cloth should do.

true you shouldn't use alcohol wipes on the phone but even if he used them everyday for a week that should not be happening so quickly

There are products meant for displays that don't damage the coating, I would not use a typical alcohol swab

Smartphones and chem do not mix. Water damp cloth is more than enough. Wash the cloth if germs are an issue. Don't rinse the phone under the water either. Just because these are water resistant, don't tempt fate.

But as some of you mentioned, this was definitely too fast. Also, now after reading this forum, I will no longer use these. I'll begin to use a cloth only.

I also installed an IQ shield screen protector. It's full coverage and works great because it's plastic film. I can't even tell it's installed unless I look hard or around the cutouts. I just wanted to protect the screen from accidental scratches.

Exactly.. my money world be on a problem with the coating... The chemicals were mixed bad at the supplier, who knows.

Received my third device and the volume buttons are so flushed they're nearly unclickable, and with a case on it's even worse. Now Google is sending me my fourth one. Sadly if this fourth one doesn't work out, I'm going to leave the Pixel 2. Sucks cause I really like this OS.
