4.0.4 update - Mic issue fixed?

The push the razr because its a droid. They are just as buggy as nexus. And youll will just complain about any thing. My thought for every one complaining about android is and its bugginies should just buy a iphone and its silky smooth os..

While making a phone call at random times during the conversation and random times even making a call, your mic cuts off and the other end doesnt hear you. Thats a problem to complain about. Im not worried about a buggy OS with certain apps not working. Im talking about the microphone and the point of having a phone, not working sometimes. Not dropped calls via Verizon. Not Network issues. The Microphone in the phone itself, drops. So please, before you say for people complaining to get an iphone, read the message clearly. And dont start any problems in the forums.

I also returned my phone for this same problem about 3 weeks ago, and have no problems since, im leanig towards this being a hardware issue or a software issue.

Are you sure its a hardware issue or a software issue? Did you narrow it down to that? :D

I hate it when people say that others are complaining when they have a legitimate issue and then say just buy another phone if you don't like that you can't make phone calls with yours because I can. I didn't have the mic dropping out issue, but I did have the screeching sound on phone calls. My ear would hurt when I would get off a call. Yeah, the phone is sweet, but if I can't make phone calls, then it's not really a good phone.

Overall this phone is badass, but the apologists drive me insane. Your phone might work perfectly, but others do have issues. Legitimate issues. Not that an app isn't compatible. That the damn phone part of the phone doesn't work properly.

I see this as a QC problem, and saying that there aren't any problems because yours works (or because you flashed/rooted/rommed your way to gold) is simply ignorant.

*NEWS FLASH* some people do have legitimate issues with this phone.

Thank you for that! My problem isn't ICS and I love the Nexus for the most part. But I rely on wifi around my office area and the GN just has a bad wifi radio. I finally pulled an old Dinc out of a drawer and charged it up, then I took my Asus Transformer, the Dinc and the GN, put them side by side in the area that I use a lot. The Transformer pulled wifi just fine and did everything I asked, the Dinc caught the wifi signal and did everything I asked, the GN said that it had the wifi signal but only on bar (or dot) but it wouldn't move data at all.

I've finally given up, I've ordered another phone and it will be here tomorrow. My leaving the GN has nothing to do with android, nothing to do with disliking Google, but it has everything to do with Samsung putting out substandard radios. This has been an ongoing problem with Sammy phones and I need one that works. I'm getting another android phone but it won't be one made by Samsung.

Take care everyone, I'll now be moving to another section of these forums but I've enjoyed my time here in the GN forums.

Again....your phone is experiencing issues.....my wifi is fantastic as well as my data. I appreciate the fact that your phone is not working properly and that it is frustrating. But that does not mean the phone itself is at fault it means your phone is. This phone gets better wifi reception and better 3g reception than my og droid with its vaunted motorola radios. So apparently samsung can make some phones work.

Well, you may be right, but that is not my experience. I also had my wife bring in her Charge. Again, the Transformer worked, the Dinc worked, the GN (wifi) did not work and the Charge wifi did not work. That certainly isn't conclusive but it does point to the Sammy radios. I didn't put in the charge originally because I didn't want to only come off as bashing Samsung, but I have to admit, I am doing just that. How is it that Asus wifi works, HTC wifi works and TWO Samsung wifi radios do NOT work. All in the same place and at the same time and using the same wifi signal?

I hope that when Google goes to put out its next Nexus phone that it insists that the accompanying radio hardware is up to par. I think Samsung blew it on his phone and the splashback is hitting Google and I don't think that's fair, but it is what it is.

I don't have another GN to compare with this one so it might just be my phone, but judging from all the comments in these forums I don't seem to be alone. In any case, my beef is not with Google or with Android, it is with Samsung.

Yeah but you have to understand that a forum like this is where people go to complain. If you look at the posts you would think the phone doesnt work at all. But look at any of the polls and you will see that the majority do not have major problems. Im not discounting your experience....Im just saying I got two of these phones in house and they both work flawlessly. The reception and wifi on my wife and my phones is superior to our old motorolas. It just sucks that some folks are experiencing problems because this phone is quite honestly the best Ive ever used.

I don't think it's all phones, but I'm able to recognize that some have serious issues. The phone not working as a phone is one of them. Like I said above, I never once had the mic drop out. But that painful screeching noise was enough to push me away.

I absolutely LOVED the phone besides that, and if I knew 100% that that was taken care of, I'd probably go back. But I just couldn't trust that I'd be able to use it flawlessly in a time of need, and that really sucked.

I think it's overall a great phone. Probably the best overall Android phone available. And I still love Android and fully intend to go back at some point. My beef was with people not trying to help solve a problem, or even acknowledge that some people have very significant and legitimate issues.

This is a place to come to help people, not simply say "oh well, my phone is perfect, so you should just buy another phone if you didn't know what you were getting into with a Nexus." That kind of response is counter productive and does nothing.

Not saying everyone does that, but enough do that it's become all too prevalent in these forums.

no you are absolutely right as far as wifi connect ability issues. My wife and I are experiencing the same thing. I hope it can be fixed with a software update because I know this phone support b g n n

i can verify that the mic issue is still there on the 4.0.4 update. But it lasted longer....15 minutes before my friend heard the clicking sound. I'm kinda annoyed and really wonder if I should get another GN at best buy. since I have protection.

This isn't good. It happened on all 3 of my phones. Might end up selling it and getting a different phone is this gets bad enough.

Thank you for threading this. I was affected by this, and wanted so bad to see 4.0.4 solve it. I had a terminal feeling it wouldn't since I put mine through a gamete of OS slaughter and it persisted.

is it just me or does it seem this issue only affects wireless to wireless. LAN connection don't get this.

can someone verify? I need to know because I might have an interview in the coming months and last thing I need is a click click click...hello?

I'm sorry to hear about the people who are having the mic issue. I haven't had that issue but other ones. I installed the update and will continue test and see if my other issues are resolved.

I've had this happen both while calling wireless and land lines. If the update does not fix it, I will ask for a replacement.

I just got tired of fighting with the GN radio issues and bought myself a Moto Razr Maxx. I really didn't think I was going to like it but I"m finding that I really do. Yeah, I know, not removable battery, except that my battery life is huge and not an issue.

I didn't get rid of my GN, I just added a line and now have both the GN and the Razr Maxx and I'm finding a few more things that are different between the two. I wasn't thrilled with the speaker in the GN but now, comparing it side by side with the Maxx, the Maxx call and speaker quality is just plain noticeably superior.

My main reason for getting the Maxx was because my wifi experience on the GN was so poor. But, I'm finding that the Maxx wifi doesn't pick up more signal bars (just using bars as a measure), however, it holds the signal much more reliably and keeps on working when the GN won't. On 3g data (not in a 4g area), the Maxx runs circles around the GN. When using VZW data the Maxx is getting a stronger signal and moves data quickly when the GN is barely moving or is clicking in and out of having any data signal at all in this area.

When I orderedt he Maxx I was thinking of adding a network extender to our office wireless system so that it would reach my office and keeping the GN if it worked as well as the Maxx with an extender, but finding so many other things that the Maxx does better I won't be doing that. I haven't decided yet whether or not I'm going to sell the Nexus but I'm beginning to lean that way. I've been searching for any excuse to keep it because I love ICS and I love all other parts of the device. But, with the differences I'm seeing between the GN and the Maxx it doesn't seem like a good move for me and I'll probably put in on Craigslist and see if anyone wants it. I don't really care if it sells or not, I can always keep the GN sitting on my desk and love it and then reach for my Maxx when I need to really get some work done.
