4.1.2 REAL update

Sorry, but this isn't a very helpful post.

Apologies, but I wasn't trying to be snarky. I just don't think the endless back and forth about whether or not the accidentally released update was official is very constructive, and was hoping that it would end. I check this thread regularly to learn about any news about an update, so it gets a bit frustrating when I read a kind of "Is not, is too, is not, is too" exchange.

It's official in the sense that it was released by Motorola/Verizon on not a custom ROM, but it wasn't SUPPOSED to be officially released that day. It was a slip.

I'm still of the opinion that the next "official release, released at its actual official time" will allow people who either automatically or manually got the "official" JB update in December-ish, to properly update from their "oops" version to the "real" version without problems. As there are people who have never visited a forum like this in their lives, they would not know any better than to question an update that populates their phone "over the air".

I personally can now wait for this update. I side loaded it, and at first i wasn't having any problems. Then they started coming. Phone was sluggish and would reboot itself a couple times. Did a FDR, didn't solve anything. Luckily a couple things on my phone were starting to go out, so i used my 1 year manufacturers warranty. Back on ics i couldn't be happier.
I should also say, on JB, my battery life took a big hit. Just having it sit and not doing anything, I was losing probably 3-4% an hour. Now, back with ICS, I'm at 2.5 hours, 93% but with 22mins of on screen time. That wasn't happening with JB.

Bro you don't understand that the manufacturers can't just push an update whenever the hell they please, it has to go through the carriers first and that's why it takes so long because verizon is always and when it comes to updates. If you want fast updates go to sprint and get a nexus device.

Also, no where did it say when you got the phone that it guaranteed any updates past ics, so consider yourself lucky you will even get anything. Some phones are still running gb and froyo. Get over yourself

Dude, I believe that was his point.

If you have an iPhone, no matter what version, when the OS updates, everyone gets it and all the app developers adjust and release updates to be compatible with the new iOS. People actually get hostile when their apps haven't released updates within 5 minutes of the new iOS coming out. I don't know how android app developers can make apps with all the phones on so many different versions.

Good point, although i don't think the problem is with apps. Probably because there are sooooo many different Android phones/ platforms/carriers & etc.

Can you imagine the uproar if only iPhone 5's got iOS 6, but only customers on Verizon, while AT&T iPhones were still waiting to go to iOS 4. It would never fly so why do Android users have to put up with it?

You hit the nail on the head!!! I've never though about it that way. Someone should ask that at Next big Android conference.

The same update may go out to every iPhone at the same time, but a big reason is that iOS is so locked down by Apple. If Google built a huge wall around the Android garden, I'm sure all phones with capable hardware would get updates at the same time. But then we Android users would lose a lot of the flexibility we enjoy. It's a give and take. Personally, I prefer the flexibility and openness over getting the next update as soon as possible. As long as my device is working well now, I can wait for the next update.

The point being a large amount of Android phones are not working well. Are the majority of all android phones running JB or ICS?

Sorry, the post I was referring to was making the point that iPhones all get the same update at the same time, while Android phones don't. So my point was that it's a choice between walled garden or openness and flexibility.

Just curious, how have you determined that a large amount of Android phones are not working well? You are correct in pointing out that JB and ICS are still not a majority, but it doesn't necessarily mean that Gingerbread phones aren't working well.

From reading a lot of posts on several Android forums , it seems to me that a large amount are having some issue or another with their phone. I've said enough and will wait for the JB to be released, then wait for bug fix. Then new phone.

I know what you're saying, but just remember that people with problems will be more likely to post on forums, and you won't hear from most of the people who aren't having any problems.. I would venture to say that you'll see a lot of complaints on iOS forums as well, because that's where people go to discuss issues.

You may be correct, but would argue that the Android owners not on forums may not know their phone aren't performing as it should.

I would like to note that because each manufacturer customizes Android it is in affect not running true Android and does not mean it will run on it. If all Android phones ran pure Android and added their UIs as additions we would be much closer. The truth is, they aren't, and they will not run plain Android without mods. Exceptions are in the minority.

As it had been mentioned numerous times. IDevices are locked in and require additional testing. IDevices are cookie cutter phones. Identical!

Go ahead and read some apple forums you will find some of the same things. Remember the majority of people will only come to the forums to complain.

Go ahead and do the math between the amount of people who post negative things about their Android phone and the number of android phones sold. All I can guarantee is that the number of android phones sold is greater than iPhones.
