4.3" Super AMOLED+ !!!

Good question. I think the QHD is still an IPS LCD panel, so think D2 with a slightly higher res screen. If I'm wrong someone please correct me.

Any chance of these screens coming to other phones or are they going to stay in house with only samsung phones??

Yes this technology will be coming to other phones. Samsung does not own OLED technology. They just happen to be the first company to get to the starting line that has the capability to mass produce these screens.

Competition is great, hopefully there will be more of it with OLED type screen development !!

I have to say, it is almost painful to use a LCD screen device after having OLED technology in any form, the LCD type screens look horrible and washed out.

Actually what's funny is I have found AMOLED screens to be incredibly washed out and dull when it comes to vividness and color. SAMOLED seems to be the exception to this rule. I know when I first heard the Galaxy S phones would be sporting an AMOLED based screen, I thought "ick" -- but I was pleasantly surprised.

How come other manufacturers are not using this technology

it costs alot to build factorys to mass produce, Samsung was just a little ahead of the curve. all the big companys are working on it, although i cant share names without losing my job lol

that's good to hear. They are so colorful and consume less power. Correct?

yeah , well that depends how they are used,,,most time you wont see the power savings because since they save consumption on the screen , they redirect the power to other parts of the phone. that will happen with all phones...they are also thinner than LCD's so manufacturers will put more stuff in the phone with the room they save.

Has anyone who's seen SAMOLED+ been able to confirm if moving away from pentile and having more subpixels fixes the graininess in the current SAMOLED screens?

I'm using a fascinate right now and compared w/ LCDs, the text is very grainy as if they turned on the sharpness filter too much. Otherwise, i think the color saturation and black levels are leaps and bounds over the LCDs. The screen is the only reason I'm considering the (ugly as heck) Stealth over the TBolt.

That (IMO) hideous scratch-magnet of a Stealth sure does have a beautiful screen... If the Thunderbolt had that beautiful panel in it I would line up on launch day, but given the unfortunate fact that I am revolted by the design of the Stealth but love the screen, and the battery life of the TBolt (the design of which I love except for the micro USB port's unfortunate placement in relation to the kickstand) is said to be less than awesome, I find myself stuck between a rock and a hard place :/

Am i the only one that thinks the qHD display on the Atrix is just absolutely gorgeous?

I was not impressed withe qHD screen when i checked it out at the ATT store. I was really hoping that it would rival the Retina display because of the increased resolution and the modest (modest these days!) 4" size, but i thought it was very grainy while not being sharp at the same time. This would have been the game changer that would have caused me hold out for the bionic or the vzw atrix, but I actually thought the Inspire 4g's SLCD looked better.

I'll be using a blunderbolt unless samsung fixes the following issues:
- fixed the grainy text; should be expected with SAMOLED+ moving away from pentile
- use an updated file system unlike the fascinate which requires a lag fix
- promise continuing support for the phone with updates
- improve the build quality; the galaxy s phones are akin to wrapping a ferrari engine in a saturn's plastic body!

If the stealth launches within 30 days of the blunderbolt it may just say me to go back to samsung.

I have one right next to me, yeah its nice but still has the classic LCD issues of poor black levels and contrast ratio compared to oled type screens, it is very obvious even against this "old" oled technology Dinc screen.
The Atrix is a pretty nice device though!(I generally hate Motorola)

Nothing can touch it in direct sunlight though

IDK, I have this first gen AMOLED (Dinc) that I use outside(I work outside) all summer with sunglasses on and it works fine, I use it all day.

I did see a difference though in brightness in the second gen AMOLED on the Fascinate and Captivate and I'm expecting the 3rd Gen screen to be even better!

When playing a HD video on youtune with a SAMOLED next to anything LCD variant, it's very easy to see how crappy LCD "technology" is....especially in the DroidX.(Nice sized screen though)

its 14 days and a $35 restocking fee

LOL

Ah yes. I stand corrected. But wasn't the big advantage of SAMOLED over regular AMOLED improved visibility in direct sunlight? Other than that I haven't seen any measured difference between the two. Again, I could be wrong, but I still stand by liking SLCD better. :)

AMOLED stood strong in direct sunlight. That is honestly what I miss about the Fascinate
