4.3 update

I was listening to a radio show once and they were talking about how they think carriers sometimes release updates to irritate people to upgrade. In some sense I can see it. The nexus 5 comes out, and this "bug" that will be our last update just happens to do a few things that are liveable, but irritating. In the long run, many users will just get tired of the bugs and upgrade to the newest device. Always seems to happen too when a new phone comes out. Conspiracy? Perhaps!

I'm going to drop back to 4.2.1. I did a factory reset and that didn't help with my phone losing connectivity. It seems like going from any sort of data connection to any other type of connection makes it lose the ability to use data. If I'm on wifi and I go to 3g or 4g, data stops working. If I'm on 4g and go to 3g, it stops working. If I'm on 3g and I go to 4g, it stops working. I'll just stick with 4.2.1 until May and move to the Nexus 5 at that time.

Also, I've checked forums and I've only seen rare cases of people even mentioning this issue so either no one else cares or no one is really talking about it. So it must be limited. That means it'll never be fixed. :-( If someone does find a fix and can prove me wrong, let me know.

hey - if you can grab a copy of your build.prop file before you leave 4.3, (it should be in the system directory), and upload it here, I can use it to generate a new version for us so we don't continue to get the nagging update message to move back to 4.3.

When you do a reset check your baseband and see if you still have matching build. I remember reading how you were having trouble upgrading and i had the same issue. I read that it was Sprint's fault when they refurb the phones they put the wrong radio/baseband combo

Here you go, I attached a copy of the build.prop file as a txt. I know I read somewhere that someone was able to get 4.3 loaded and got a custom rom or something to fix the issue with the radio not switching back correctly. Going to play around with my GNex tonight to see if i can get that issue resolved. Getting anoyed having to toggle airplaine mode on/off to get things to work good. Especially when using music app

I just have a widget with a toggle for data that I turn on/off. Its near instant to switch on/off vs the airplane mode toggle. Still a pain, but easier I think.

Thanks - I believe I have now gotten rid of those pesky messages to upgrade back to 4.3. What a POS the 4.3 upgrade was. Gave us nothing but headaches!

Yes the baseband and the build didn't match. Just be clear, I worked with a friend to figure that out and we ended up using adb and fastboot to completely wipe the phone and flash the stock 4.2.1 ROM and radio that google has on their official android page. Once everything was at the proper 4.2.1, I was able to do the 4.3 OTA.

The issue is, since downloading and installing the 4.3 OTA, I have the the data connection loss issue where I'm on wifi and go to 4g or I'm on 4g and go to 3g (automatically by changing locations) and if I go back to 4g for example, it will show bars and they are grey and data doesn't work.

This is frustrating... This 4.3 internet connectivity issue is awful. Is there a way to get back to 4.2.1 without rooting? Thanks in advance.

No - because you will need to install a custom recovery image like TWRP or CW. And then you will need the images as well, which I believe can be found on this forum. I went back to 4.2.1 since the data connectivity sucks on 4.3.

Here I'm just learning that 4.3 was released for the GNex and everyone is going back to 4.2. Guess it's good to be "the last to know" sometimes. LOL

As a 2nd update...I think I have ran into the bug that doesnt let your phone auto reconnect to wifi or data dies if you enter/leave a 4g zone...looks to be a 4.3 issue even before the sprint update...Probably an intentional bug to make people have to buy a nexus 5. Its a pretty irritating thing so far after just a few days.

Yes - I have seen the same exact issue. I did not have this prior to the 4.3 update. I may just go back to the previous version - lucky I backed it up. Right now, each time I switch into/out of 4G, I need to go to airplane mode and back to get data connection again.

I read somewhere that samsung recommends a factory reset to fix this issue, but that seems like textbook help just saying to start fresh and not knowing if it really fixes the issue. My 4g coverage is only a few towers if I am lucky, but its a pain none the less...

My phone is having this problem with 4.3. When I was on GA02 running a FH05 radio, I was able to get a 4g signal and not have this issue. I wonder if flashing the FH05 radio back will solve the issue?

I decided to do the full factory restore and after doing so I don't seem to have an issue entering/exiting 3g to 4g now. I only was in the 4g area a few times but it seemed to work since the restore. Not to say it will break again though. But so far so good for me now.

Yesterday I was on 3g it worked, drove through 4g & ran the speed test app, drove out of 4g & ran the speed test app again and I still had a signal again. So far so good, but thats the only 4g area I have close by to test it on. I don't know if its dependent on the towers/location or anything; which I wouldn't think so, but who knows!

Either way I had the phone since launch day, so a factory reset was a fresh start. Kind of like when you reformat a windows pc you gain back that "new" feeling you lost.

Well today I entered a different 4g zone than normal and had the data drop again. Guess I'll live with it and toggle data on/off when the issue arises :-/

I did a factory reset and the dropping of 3G/4G connection happens to me multiple times per day. Please let us know if anyone finds a fix!

I was having the same issue after the 4.3 update. When I'd leave 4G coverage, I would loss my data connection. It was almost like the phone got "suck" on 4G and couldn't get a 3G signal. I'm rooted (stock Sprint ROM), so I flashed the older GA02 radios, and it solved the issue. The new radios that came with 4.3 seem to be buggy. If you're rooted, it might be worth a try.

I tried that as well going back to GA02 - it did not work for me at all. Still had data lockups on 4.3. I just posted in another thread that I went to KitKat through Cyanogenmod - it runs great, and no data issues, and I am on KitKat!

Nice, I might have to go back to Cyanogen Mod. I used CM for a long time, but went back to stock 7 months ago when I thought I'd have to bring my phone back on Sprint for a TEP replacement (which didn't end up happening).

So 4.4 CM is smooth and stable?

For the most part, yes. There are a few graphical glitches when changing screen orientations, but those quickly disappear (half a second or less). I have had a few lockups now, but no where near the amount I was having on stock.
