4.4.3 for AT&T, newb questions

Hello all... I recently gave up on Apple and kicked them to the curb, mostly due to their choice to stick to 16gb storage as a base model (greedy!).

I love the m8 and love Android, which I would've never guessed. The only thing I'm not used to coming from the iPhone is how much the carriers have their hooks into these devices.

After what I gather was a disastrous and short rollout of 4.4.3 on AT&T, I can't seem to find any information about if and when they'll fix the issues and push out a new OTA update. The pulled update came before I purchased the m8.

Anyone have any insight into how these updates work? Will a fixed version come out? Will they simply give up until Android L?

I really, really want that file manager, so that I can at least manually get around Android's walling off of my SD card. I'm surprised that even Google Photos won't let me save edits to my photos on the SD.

I've also read that Motion Launch got some tweaks, which would be nice as my wife (who also switched) has issues with it the majority of the time, while I do not.

Pie in the sky, I'm hoping for a fix to sound crackling issues for the last 2-3 notches of volume when listening to softly mastered songs through good headphones with Boomsound OFF.

The whole rooting process scares the crap out of me and the Sense software with Google Now Launcher is 95% perfect for me, so I can't wait for these updates, but I'm surprised by the lack of info about when to expect them, or even IF I can expect an updated rollout. Anyone have more insight on what to expect in these scenarios?

Yeah, unfortunately, it's all up to the carriers now. HTC has done their part. Have you tried calling AT&T?

If you ever want to dabble in the rooting gig, post in the roms, rooting and hacks forum and I'd be more than happy to help you convert your and your wife's over to a dev edition like I did mine. It is not as scary as it seems. I thought the same about two years back when I first started messing with the HTC Desire HD. It becomes lots of fun actually!!!

Thanks man, I may take you up on that. I'm a relatively techy guy as I work in design, photography, and film... So I'm sure I would be a fast learner at this stuff. It's pretty inevitable that I will have to root. Even just for the backups. I exchanged my phone due to crackling at high volumes on soft songs and HTC Backup froze during the restore no matter what I did. On that note: The replacement phone still crackles the same, but I'm using more sensitive headphones now so that I don't have to go up to those volumes. Strange thing was that my wife's m8 crackles 90% less on the same songs with the same headphones (no boomsound). So strange. /end rant

I've experienced the same thing with the back up. I've read that HTC cloud backup and a synced Facebook account are interfering with each other. You have to un-sync Facebook and then restart your phone. It's not happening to everybody though. Weird. And what do you mean Ben?

Yeah, I saw all that about Facebook... I didn't even have an account for it set up in my accounts. I tried disabling the app though just in case.

Now that I think about it, maybe I should have signed in, then disabled that account to see if that would've jarred something.

Ben:

My stores only carry 32gb m8 models for $99 (on contract). I realize that that isn't the price it launched at, but comparitively, last year's iPhone 5s is the same price today with only 16gb storage. Then there's the SD slot on the m8, which is all gravy.
